Who is troubled by injecting in public? Just me?

My son in law who is a Scrub Nurse in a well known hospital was told he couldn't inject in the staff room due to complaints from other nursing staff. If hospitals can't accommodate their diabetic staff what hope is there for public venues to do so?

Type 1: Lack of GP/Consultant support

I have never seen a GP or a consultant with my diabetes , There is only the practice nurse. and sometimes I feel I am more advanced in my knowledge than she is. There are no alternative health centres in rural areas so you are stuck with what there is it seems.

NHS Direct doctor says... NO testing when taking Metformin

I was told not to test as well although I read NICE Guidelines saying newly diagnosed diabetics should test. I bought my own strips and tested a few times a week. I discovered that my fasting blood sugar is higher every day than my levels taken four hours after a meal. I was told this only...

How does anyone manage Metformin ?

[ have been on metformin for a year now. Initially I took one a day, that was OK, then I was put onto three a day as my glucose levels hadn't come down. From that I was given an extended release form of Metformin and that made me very ill, then I have been put on 2 metformin per day since...

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

My fasting blood results are always higher than later on in the day. The lowest it has been is 9 but often it has been more, going down to 7 later in the day. I was told by Diabetic Nurse that it isn't possible for someone who is type 2, even though I have shown her tests. The syndrome where...

    Advised against Blood glucose meter

I was told the same thing in Wales, although I have read that the current advice is to give newly diagnised Diabetics blood glucose meters. I have ended up getting my own ( lots of schemes give you the meter free and you only pay for test strips) and when I showed the diabetic nurse she was...

Does this happen to all Type 1's...?

I can understand your frustration but underlying this is the assumption that everyone with type 2 diabetes might have caused it through unwise dietary choices. This isn't true so why don't we stop saying type1 an type 2 and give different names altogether?

Have you been told not to test your blood sugars?

I asked about testing after diet control was not enough and the DN wanted to put me on Metformin. I asked again when she tested me 6 months and 12 months respectively and the Metformin wasn't adequate. Each time she said no, the type of meds I am no don't lead to hypos so I didn't need to test...

    Running out of metformin

I occasionally run out of metformin because the GP willl only give me a months supply at once and I have to work away and sometimes have to go a couple of days until I can apply for the next one. Is this something I need to worry about? I eat totally low cab during those 2 days, no bread...

    metatarsalgia

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a year ago. Initially I was able to control it through diet and exercise but now it has gone too high to do this. So I am now on metformin x2 per day. In the meantime, I have had increasingly sore balls of feet and some numbness alongside the pain. My toes...

Dec 2014 update: New research on the Low Carb Diet in general practice

When I was first diagnosed I went right into low carb and brought my glucose levels down so well I was told I didn't need metformin as long as I continued using low carb.

    Pump upset

I really think that parents still need to make decisons such as this for children, she is not really old enough to make an informed choice and in any other area of her life it would the parents who are offering care and control , otherwise many kids would make rbad decisions because they are not...
