Numbers down how to deal with relatives

I would acknowledge they probably mean well, but reiterate this is a lifestyle change. You quit it and the problems come back. You’d appreciate their help and you can give examples - like having family over for dinner? Perhaps they could always make sure there is lots of green veg. Serving...

The Times; soup and shake diet

This got sent to me earlier: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/6412da28-de31-11ed-a0a8-657f9e54fc6a?shareToken=751994ef80cb03d3da0154c72c544265 Standard nhs line - lose weight, go into remission. As we know it’s the diet driving this rather than the weight :)

Help with T2 Diabetics and Cake flavourings

Cream and berries I finds is a winning combination. Chocolate (dark or dutched cocoa) or lemon works well. you can use mascarpone and lemon zest/juice, a little bit of sweetener to make a great no bake cheese cake with a nut base. I’m not a fan of sweetener, so tend to make desserts where you...

Type 2 When does diabetes get worse?

As a mody, I’d say some of it might come down to genetics in the end, which is out of our control. Keep doing the right things that keep your blood sugar levels under control and don’t sweat the longer term. There will always be treatments.

Hit a wall , no will power

I’m sorry to hear that. I too, struggle with depression at times. Have you tackled your depression? I would do that before worrying about your weight/glucose level etc. You know what needs to be done, but it’s just you don’t have the energy to do it. I get that. A couple of things that might...

    Special soup helps diabetics?

I went back to the article to see if I could glean anymore helpful info on the study… there is one study published by that team (quadram institute)in the American journal of clinical nutrition. another study is quoted from the university of Gothenburg. Your comments pretty much back up my...

    Hello fellow diabetics

Thank you for sharing! I loved your story. Youve come so far, so fast! It’s wonderful :) It’s always great to hear from diabetics in their 30s as well - when I was diagnosed I got the impression people thought it was weird being a diabetic at 35 (but it’s all, sadly, becoming more common these...

    Special soup helps diabetics?

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/can-a-new-soup-cut-the-risk-of-type-2-diabetes-2f5wq9pvg Interesting article sent to me - it’s behind paywall, but to summarise: the soup in question is made with a special type of broccoli with high levels of glucoraphanin Glucoraphanin converts into...

Add on another - one year and in remission

Hello! I take it you are a type 2? Me too! I Just followed the good advice of others on this forum- go low carb and use a meter to test which foods are good/bad for my blood sugar level. It takes some determination, but I feel much better for it! Good luck on your journey.

    Just been told to shield

A family member had the same thing and we think it’s because of gestational diabetes. I took the test and got a 75/100. I’ve had my vaccination and received my shielding letter this week!

    AstraZeneca vaccine

I’m surprised, but I just booked my first one in next week (I’m in my 30s with only diabetes as a chronic condition). I figure it might be because I’m the weird diabetic of the surgery :D thanks for the heads up on blood sugar rises!

Add on another - one year and in remission

thats fantastic! And in such a short time as well, time to give yourself a big pat on the back :) Low carb is great - and now I’ve lost weight I find I can have an occasional little bit of potato as well, but in the main I wouldn’t change my low carb diet for anything. I hope you continue going...

Add on another - one year and in remission

thank you! It sounds like you are doing well yourself - keep it up, you will get there! I go walking a lot to keep my exercise levels up. I don’t think it has much impact on my levels (well in comparison with my diet) but it certainly has an effect on my mood! good luck!

Add on another - one year and in remission

Yes, I really feel for those receiving their diagnosis right now... But it can be done as mine and other stories show. I like my new diet; I feel so much better on it. Hopefully others will find that eventually too.
