BG meter that doesn't need a finger stab

I received a card with a batch of needles from Glaxo. They sent me a smart phone adapter with strips and finger jabber. . Problem is the app is only iPhone and iPads. I spoke to Glaxo and they said they are working on an android app and bloodless reader for release early this year. So far nothing.

    Insulin after surgery

Snap! I had major abdominal surgery on 5th June. God it was painful afterwards! Big problem urinating after. The hospital gave me morhine and other pain killers. They put me on a insulin pump. This put my BG on average of 8mmol. One month later my fasting is 6.6. I've just had a second...

Most people with type 2 diabetes will also eventually need to use insulin.

I was diagnosed with type 2 in 1997, but the truth is I managed to cheat the medics and joined the Royal Marines at age 15! I'm now 65. I had a military career for most of my working life, knowing I had Type 2. It was only a couple of years ago that I had to start taking insulin. My DN knew the...

Told to stop metformin for ten days as having bowel problems. Concerned BG will increase?

Yep been there! My diabetics nurse took me off Metformin and started me on Gliclazide and then Forxiga. After a year I was put back on Metformin with the other drugs. I have found that provided I take the Metformin during or just after a meal, no problem. However if I leave it too late -...

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

I average 7.8 first thing. Could never understand why sometime it will be 9.0. 6.7 his morning, it all has to do with food, I think. Don't eat before going to bed. At least 3 hours before sleeping. I gave up alcohol and my fasting BG went up! It's levelled out now.

    Sweet Potatoes

Yes, when my wife first suggested that we try them, I was'nt happy and pushed them away. one day in a fast food place the people next to us had sweet potato chips. Great! Don't knock it till you've tried them!

    Meter reading's way out!

I would also check the expiry date on your test strips. If they're out of date you'll get a false reading.

    Itchy all over at night.

Consultant sent me Ferrous Fulmerate tablets after a blood test. Anyone else have this problem?

Zero coke and the wee tipple...

Good on you! I have just retired after 50 years and don't do nearly enough exercise now. However, I do make sure I take the Meds I've been prescribed. About once every couple of months me fasting BG will jump from an average of 7.7 to 23! Having looked this up, it is not uncommon, we're all human

    Testing Strips....

I must admit that I'm fortunate to have Diabetic Nurse who gave me a free meter and strips when I started on Meds. I was given a NHS form which stopped me paying for all prescriptions. I thought this was the same for all UK residents. I have also got one of the free meters advertised on his...

Type 2 Feeling confused ….cocktail of diabetes medication…

I'm almost in the same position, however I only take 14units on Humulin in the evening. I got hit by a parasite (gut bleeder!) in Turkey a few weeks back and was told to stop taking the statin as it was weakening my gut lining. I also gave up on the blood pressure med as it was it gave me...

    Metformin Trouble after 4 years?

Hi Bigaxyz, I had very similar history with Metformin as you 3 years ago. In the end I was stopped by my GP from taking the drug and given other drugs. After a HbA1c check up with my Diabetics nurse I was put back onto Metformin but cautioned not to take it unless i was eating. Never take it...

    Medical cannabis

I believe that cannabis oil was/is used in eye drops for Glaucoma. I don't know if that is still the case as I was dianosed with Glaucoma 2 years before being diagonsed with diabetis!

    Doctors changing peoples meters

I notice now that there are at least two adverts (in Diabetics.co.uk) for free meters. Presumably the companies making the readers get their money via the sale of blood sample strips. I should think that indiviual practices and surgery's fund the cost and make the decisions on which readers'...

Hi Ian. I signed up for the course on Hypo awareness; completed the 1st module, but was unable to continue as nothing happened when I clicked on the next icon. I was after getting a wristband (Insulin dependant diabetic), but again I could only get so far with the application.
