This is great thread and many thanks for all the useful information. My mistake Is should of asked but when I last visited the surgeon seemed to be suggesting that the leakages from my retinopathy scan were creeping towards the centre of the retina, as a result I have to go back for more laser...
They definitely need to know you are diabetic as some of the drugs contain elements that can dramatically increase your blood sugar levels. Provided your levels are around normal however they are able to navigate around that with recent medications. I carry a card with me all the time showing...
Needed an operation and took me 6 months to get down to acceptable levels on Metformin and Gliclazide. don't expect a miracle rush. Agree with others that diet is equally important. Never sure but I think my drop off in levels was as much about diet as medication.

Hi there
Had laser surgery for retinopathy in January 2014 on one eye. Thought everything was going OK but now need laser surgery on both eyes. Apparently the leakages are creeping towards the retina and if they can't stop the creeping there is the prospect of damage to my central vision. I...
Definitely a problem. I'm on Gliclazide and when I was on 80mg each morning I would set off for the station, a brisk 20 minute walk and would find that I felt dizzy / unstable after about 15 minutes. Testing I found that at that point my sugar levels were down in the low 4's and on one...
Are there any indications that drugs either directly related to diabetes or related ailments can have an effect on your personality?
I'm on Gliclazide, Metformin for the diabetes, Simvistatin for cholesterol and Losartan / Indapamide for blood pressure. Friends have indicated that in recent...
>> I was put on blood pressure tablets after I blew 193/116 at the docs and was initially put on Losatran Potassium then in Natrilix Indapamide. I'm sorry but I can't remember which was the potential cause but I was advised that whilst my cholesterol levels were good it was likely that due to...
>> OK I'm bored with this now, not you I hasten to add. One hour further on and back to 5.9. Mind you I suspect the Metformin has kicked in. Interesting what you said and I think I need to do some serious testing in relation to the effects of alcohol and how it supresses sugar level reading...
>> Hi there try not to panic it will take time. My reading wasn't like yours mine was 23 but the nurses still were shocked when mine was discovered. I was due to have an operation. It took six months to get my reading down to a level where they were happy to complete the operation. Work with...
Just a cautionary note...I know they warn you that you may suffer from this and may suffer from that as a diabetic.
Suffered my first real side affect of the diabetes associated with high blood pressure. Had an oedema (leakage) in my right eye. Had to go for laser eye surgery which involved...
>>Interesting. On top of that I was told by my doctor recently that some of the medication (particularly BP related medication) can actually supress the Healthy (HDL) cholesterol so although they give you targets they may not be achievable. Slightly disappointing after 3 years as type 2 to find...
Had a belated Christmas lunch with colleagues, mixed Chinese food off the fixed menu and a few glasses of Sancerre. Get home after a 20 minute walk from the station and reading on a Free style light meter is 4.8. Take my metformin and decide randomly one hour later to check my reading and it is...
