Newly diagnosed child diabetic - thinking treats are now not at thing for snacking and desserts - ideas welcome

Hi and welcome to the forum. If you are ok with some very straightforward baking this company sells some cake mixes which are good. I tend to make them into muffins rather than a big cake. I also use them for desserts by warming in a microwave for 30 seconds and having with cream...

Hi and welcome, How does the heat affect you? How do you monitor your blood sugar? What treatment are you on? Are you worried about your blood sugar dropping too low, or going high? Sorry fir so many questions but we can’t help you unless we know what you are worried about.

    Hi.

Hi and welcome, I’m also a type 2 on insulin. I was diagnosed at 50 although I didn’t go on insulin until two years ago (I’m 64 now). There is a section on the forum specifically for type 2 s on insulin if you have any specific questions on that...

What urine ketone testing strips to buy?

I haven’t compared the cost of blood ketone strips. I bought a CareSens dual meter. The meter was about £20. Packs of 10 ketone strips are about £14. But the strips are only in date for three months. I do t know if there are cheaper meters around.

    Parenthood with diabetes

Im sorry to hear of the problems your partner is having balancing his blood sugars. I’m sure that is also very hard on you, especially if you are being woken by his alarms at night. I’m going to caveat this with the fact that I’m type 2 but I am on MDI with Lantus (long acting) and fiasp (for...

what on earth can I eat?

Reducing it (as your nurse has suggested) should help in the long term. In the meantime maybe increase your carbs a bit in your evening meal. If I go low I eat a couple of jelly babies then some carbs. I appreciate how difficult it is to select which carbs with your various issues.

what on earth can I eat?

Hi, What insulin/insulins are you on? Maybe the first thing to do is to work out why you are going low at bedtime and see if you can prevent that?

Blood test machines what do you buy?

You should be able to ask your diabetic nurse to prescribe a new one and the testing strips for you.

This is not supposed to happen on Metformin alone.

I was wondering if it was some form of rebound/reactive hypoglycaemia. I’m no expert on that but it seems unlikely that long after eating.

How long before the low did you eat? Any idea how many carbs you had at that meal?
