    all is not well

Hi Lucylocket. I have not been on the forum for a few months, but I have thought of you. I am so pleased you have great support around you and they have you pain free. You are remarkable. It may not always feel like it but honestly from one cancer patient to another - you really are. Take...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Just like to thank all of you regular contributers to this forum and the not so regular ones. I was diagnosed with a Hba1C of 112 (!) after chemo and steroids in 2022 with the "watch what you eat" tag line from health professionals. This website but particularly this thread gave me a great...

    Porridge

I found the whole finding the right breakfast the most challenging. I wear a Libre 2 so could see what different options were doing to my BG. In the end I settled on Plain Yoghurt with peanut butter swirled into it. I am same as you and need a quick breakfast and I also do t like/enjoy/came...

    all is not well

Lucy your GP sounds amazing. Wish mine was that pro-active. I had longer term antibiotic use for 6 weeks in 2013 to keep infection under control and then at bay whilst I was awaiting surgery. I saw it as reassuring that they were trying to keep me in the best shape to get the surgery done on...

    all is not well

Hi Lucy. I finished active chemo earlier this year. i had my first cancer diagnosis in 2013. Sadly, I had a reoccurrence of the cancer in 2021 (50 years old). This time my cancer has spread in my body so I am living with cancer. Because of that I have ongoing targeted therapy drugs every...

    all is not well

Hi Lucy. Fortsip is the milk shake type drink they give in hospital. I agree they are dreadfully sweet to the taste and I’ve never liked milkshakes anyway. They also do a Fortijuice which is like an orange juice but packed with calories etc like the Fortisip. Maybe the Fortijuice would be...

    all is not well

Lucy you should telephone your Consultants Secretary and ask these questions and she will likely put you in contact with a specialists nurse. You can ask what the NICE target times to be seen or start treatment are from the specialists nurse. If you are lacking clarity over your diagnosis at...

    all is not well

Lucy I moderate for a cancer charity and the advice I gave you is the advice I give there and it has meant that people are getting their appointments moved forward (earlier). I have worked within the nhs. They are under dreadful demand levels but that does not mean you should not been seen...

    all is not well

Lucy I am unsure of the NICE guidelines for time from diagnosis to start of treatment for your type of cancer. The Macmillan team or the PALS team should be able to answer that question and if your appointment on 21 January is outside of that time then use the PALS team to get the appointment...

Does General Anaesthetic affect blood glucose

I spiked massively whilst under a general anaethestic in March, to the extent that they have to put me on a sliding scale of insulin during the surgery. they said it can happen and part of it is the bodies stress response. Took a few days for my BG to get back to normal levels.

    all is not well

Oldvatr is so right - my hospital DN was positively encouraging porridge for breakfast whilst they were also retaining me in hospital because by BG would not drop below 9!

    all is not well

It’s one of the hardest parts of the journey - waiting for results, but think of it this way, had you not been admitted into hospital you would still have at least a week before the CT scan so you are head of the game - trying to put a positive spin on it. x

    all is not well

It can seem so overwhelming whilst waiting for all test results and then a discussion with oncologist. Be kind to yourself, and take it a day at a time. I am so sorry you are having to go through this. X

    Who still wears their masks

At my local hospital I noticed last week when having a scan that it is not a requirement to Wear a mask, but I did as I’m was then going into the chemo unit part of the hopsital on Friday for my anti cancer drug injection and there are some very vulnerable patients in that area. There is a...
