    Occasionally hypertensive, any ideas?

@JoKalsbeek Do you measure your Blood Pressure at Home? It is possible to get a good reliable brand of monitor for a relatively low price (obviously depending on income). You could then see what impact food, salt, water, walking have on your Blood Pressure. You may already be doing this, but if...

    Cottage cheese

If you buy low fat of fat free cottage cheese, it is likely to have added starch. If you buy Flavoured Cottage cheese it is likely to have ingredients that add carbs If you buy Full Fat Natural Cottage chees, the ingedients are likely to be Milk and Salt. These are usually low carbohydrate.

    QRisk3 on line form

For anyone intersted in the Background to the development to QRisk3, here is a link to a BMJ article covering this https://www.bmj.com/content/357/bmj.j2099 It shows how the model was developed. I found the "Hazard Ratios" interesting (Table 3 for women and table 4 for men) All of the Risk...

Hi @nabilla I am also Prediabetic with a similar BMI to you "I will try and reduce my BMI further as I read that even if you have a healthy BMI then losing weight helps control your diet." There is little evidence to support this idea for your weight and blood sugar level. Most research has...

    Weight gain

It does depend on what you mean by cutting out the "bad stuff". You probably need to up your fat intake a bit to get your weight back up with out increasing your blood sugar levels Nuts are a great addition. Walnuts are possibly the lowest carb ( about 3.3g per 100g) and are cheaper than...

Prediabetes dietary changes for someone with a low weight?

I was diagnosed prediabetes and was low weight (7 years ago!) I suggest reduce carbs (wholemeal as well as refined). You then need to replace those calories with fats or proteins I lost weight when I first started low carb - I wasn't eating enough calories. I tracked the number of carbs and the...

    Weight problems

If you are losing weight that you don't wish to lose, and you want to avoid starch/carbohydrate then you must increase fat and/or protein. It is possible that at your weight, and the amount you have lost that you are losing muscle mass - though your swimming and walking may help preserve it...

    How to Proceed

If you are losing weight, your cholesterol will probably rise. I am also Prediabetic and slim. When I started Low Carb I lost more weight than I needed to. I spent some time working out how many calories I was taking in (as well as doing the carb count). I found I wasn't eating enough. I found I...
