    Diabetes and Colitis

Well quick update - saw the dietician the other week who was aware I was a diabetic and low-carbing - she is nice, has a good sense of humour in telling me not to google low FODMAP and then get all scared, and will be seeing her again next week. Because I have been using a Libre sensor for years...

gawd… canvassers. This is where my Ring doorbell pays for itself!

What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

I don’t get so hung up on that to be honest… I think I have the confidence in the fact that I broadly stick to a low to moderate carb intake most of the time, having spent/wasted time in overbearing LCHF groups where people refuse to accept that everybody is different. What spikes me might be...

Waking bg: 8.2 … so hopefully the anti-inflams for the colitis is beginning to have an effect of my sugars. As for operation Swipey back to basics, I have put my faith in Expressionmed under patches, and a SkinGrip overlay and at the moment the itching is bearable and familiar … so hopefully the...

Yeah it has been a bit of a time... but not bowel cancer, so let‘s be thankful for small mercies.

Swipey woes. Two Libre 2s failed one after the other. I think that the anti-adhesive chomping measures I used to get away with on Libre 1s in longer work for these fussy beasties. So two more on their way to me and I am trying out this “airing out” method while waiting for some under-patches...

Ulcerative colitis, nafld and t2 diabetes diet. Any advice please? Thankyou in advance.

That is solid advice… I will see if I can get a ketone testing kit from the pharmacy on Monday. On slightly more positive news, I was pleasantly surprised with my first attempt at chia seed pudding … I might have gone a little overboard with the almond milk so less next time, and I have...

Thanks Ian! At the moment I am camped in a thread looking at the unholy combo of diabetes and colitis and options around that... just ugh!

It is funny you should say that - my GP said that if the sitagliptin doesn't work (because in his words I am not his typical Type 2) he is probably going to do the tests for Type 1.5. I think you are right - it is an expensive test and they would prefer to throw barrels of tablets at you first...

Ulcerative colitis, nafld and t2 diabetes diet. Any advice please? Thankyou in advance.

It has been a long while since I have had anything that could have been C19.. the changes in bowel movement started in Feb towards the end of a golfing holiday and things have been probably closer to IBS for those months… and then bizarrely last month when I was cooking from fresh a lot, it was...

Ulcerative colitis, nafld and t2 diabetes diet. Any advice please? Thankyou in advance.

Quick update: the postie has brought unto me an appointment with the dietician who has noted that I am diabetic and @JoKalsbeek said pretty much the same thing in your first reply that it is about finding something that doesn’t flair up and still allows me to stick to a LCHF regime that works...

Ulcerative colitis, nafld and t2 diabetes diet. Any advice please? Thankyou in advance.

Forgive the double post - anither 'oddity' - I was prescribed chewy Vit D tablets after my previous bloods and I was able to chomp on them until ... fairly recently and not surprisingly around the same time frame as the bowel issues. The chalky minty taste started making me feel quite nauseous...

Ulcerative colitis, nafld and t2 diabetes diet. Any advice please? Thankyou in advance.

I know that some of the more stringent LCHF groups I started with would faint and clutch their pearls if I mentioned bananas or a couple of pieces of apricot but certainly the first time around with using Libre to measure spikes it was not particularly heavy for me than, say, grapes or...

Ulcerative colitis, nafld and t2 diabetes diet. Any advice please? Thankyou in advance.

I haven’t really deviated that much from my normal LCHF routine, but things started to go on the wonk when I came back from a golfing holiday. Unlike most hotels where you have a buffet … this was a la carte and THE tiddliest portions you ever did see (and you had to look very closely to see...

I have just returned to the forum after a long break. I have just been diagnosed with colitis and my bloods have soared while my weight has plummeted. But my GP seemed to think that to manage the colitis would be at odds with LCHF and what I have found is confusing… “no don’t touch that, oh but...
