Keto vs low GI Mediterranean diet?

As my weight has now plateaued after losing about 18% of my body mass 1-2 years ago (probably plateaued due to the huge amounts of cheddar I was eating hmmmmmm), I've been doing some research on alternative diets and other factors associated with diabetes including, in particular, gut...

    Progression from prediabetes to T2?

This week seems I am getting much more sensible readings (I'm feeling a lot more normal now as well). BG levels have not exceeded 6 in the mornings (!) after my shower which is quite something. I don't know if this is the result of me doing midweek exercise or because finally the impact of...

    Progression from prediabetes to T2?

I have been low carbing for a couple of years now... only having fuel when I cycle (I know this is controversial but I just can't cycle at high intensity without fueling). I have also been doing intermittent fasting off and on (usually from about 2100 - 1200). Yesterday evening I managed a...

    Progression from prediabetes to T2?

Thanks for that. Yup, I know about that - very odd, using my Libre I have been about 4.5-6 in the mornings and then as soon as I've got up and showered I am anything between 6.5 and 7.5... but it does then come down a bit once I start daily activities. Is there a way to test how much insulin...

    Progression from prediabetes to T2?

Question for those in the know - is it possible to work out how close to diabetic one is with testing other than HBA1C?

    Progression from prediabetes to T2?

There's something in this and agree that to become T2D one must have a predisposition and it must be triggered environmentally. The key point is what is the threshold for that trigger. Is it a BMI of 29 or 24? There is a HUGE range there.

    Progression from prediabetes to T2?

I wonder if changes in altitude make a difference... we were on holiday at 1900m for a couple of weeks over Xmas and since returning I've been quite off colour, which is why I stuck the CGM on.

    Progression from prediabetes to T2?

Have to say I'm inclined to agree with this. I do think genetics play a big part - I apparently (according to my medical records) I was prediabetic at 27 (no one told me until I spoke to a GP a couple of years ago) but clearly my BG levels have fluctuated over the last few years as I have gain...

No NHS support for prediabetics who are not overweight

This sounds mostly keto to me... except for the blueberries! Sounds like good food in your house :)

    Progression from prediabetes to T2?

What's the success for folks with prediabetes in preventing progression to T2? I have terrible genetics - birth father diabetic at 35... cousins and other family diabetic. I'm 45, and have lost about 16kg in the last 2 years through a keto diet (only have carbs when cycling) and now have a...

What sort of specifically low carb things do you eat?

    Bitter melon

Was thinking I'd actually pay for a private consultation / tests as several things don't appear to be available on the NHS. I'm pretty low carb. Quite strict Keto except when I cycle and then I have fuel (ranging from cake to energy gels, bread etc). I also do intermittent fasting of around...

    Bitter melon

Good question! I will get a formal consultation for Metformin but I am on the low side of pre-diabetic at the moment so I may not actually get it.

    Bitter melon

Has anyone here used bitter melon? What results have you had? From what I've read this is like a low dose of metformin. I've just started this a couple of weeks ago and will soon apply an Abbot Sensor to see what the effects are.
