Am I having side effects of metformin?

I agree, reduce your carbs. I'm on Metformin (not SR) and when I have had too many carbs is when I get gastric distress!! I'd also recommend exercise. I obviously don't know how active you are, but being physically active keeps my BS in good control. The last time I saw my consultant he told...

Fruit good or bad for you

Berries are best as others have said. I have berries every morning with my oats. I can deal with small bananas when I am exercising. But if I don't exercise they spike me. At the moment, I'm training for a triathlon so am enjoying my bananas!! Grapes, as much as I love them, will always...

What I like about being Diabetic

I love the fact that I am far healthier since my diagnosis. I had type 1.5 diagnosed after swine flu that damaged my heart. It changed my life. I am now fitter and healthier than I've been in years. I cycle, I swim, I've started running.... I'm doing my first triathlon in 3 months aged...

Its worth trying one and seeing how you get on with it. Some women find that it does cause weight gain, but I haven't had this.

    Hypos and resulting illness

Hi all, Linking to the Hot Weather thread on General discussion, I have a question. This recent spell of hot weather has resulted in me having a few hypos. I have found that afterwards I have no energy, my muscles feel sore and I feel nauseous for a good 24 hours afterwards. Has anyone...

    Question for the ladies!!

I had the Merina coil and was in constant pain. They reluctantly removed it, but I had to keep it for 6 months before they would. it was 6 months of hell. I now have the depo injection and I occasionally get spotting but nothing major. I should add I do have endometriosis.

    Self diagnosed need advice

I have had High Blood pressure since my mid 20's and so have a year blood test to check my kidney function. During that blood they also test my fasting cholesterol and fasting blood sugars. My fasting blood sugars were always completely fine. Then 4 years ago I got swine flu, and had some...

Rights to time off from work for diabetes appoinements

GP appointments, fair enough to make them at the start or end of the day, but hospital appointments are a law to themselves!! I don't know of any hospital that allows you to choose a time, you have to go when they say! Under the equality act you are entitled to time off (unpaid) to attend the...

    diet and type 2 diabetes

I'm not surprised you are tired  You need to eat!!! You should always have breakfast as Metformin needs to be taken with food. Personally I tend to have some berries and some nuts (as I low carb) but on the weekend I'll have egg on granary toast. You should have 3 meals a day, not...

Re: diagnsed as diabetic im in shock anyone advise Personally I wouldn't touch Canderel with a barge pole as it is Aspartame based (the nastiest of all the sweeteners). Splenda (Sucrolose) or Stevia would be healthier alternatives.

    diabetes at work

Why is it not working out with regard to regular food? Can you not take breaks? Do your employers know you are diabetic? If not, you must tell them as they need to make reasonable adjustments due to the equality act. I can't see a shift pattern like that being an issue as long as you are able...

    Lloyds Diabetes Test

I agree, it's dangerous! They should only even consider it on a fasting blood sugar, gosh someone could have just finished a litre of coke and be told they are diabetic when they are not just their body hadn't started dealing with the sugar yet, but in an hour it would be fine. :shock...
