    Future of the Forum

The question asked, IMHO has absolutely nothing to do with wrong dietry advice, or low carbing. So why does it always come back to this subject? Please, can you think of something else to contribute as per question asked. Think positive for a change!

    High Glucose Levels

Hi Aitch, and welcome. It depends on what regime you're on. You don't say if you're on a basal-bolus regime, that is 1 long lasting (basal) which regulates BS levels to an even state, and bolus which is adminstered just prior to meals, and kicks in after about 15 mins. Either way, it depends on...

    UTAG ICE

I have a UTAG-ICE, It's very good as you can put lots of info onto it, even a picture of yourself. It's not large (military dogtag size), I bought mine because I ride a Motorbike, not the safest of past times. The only fault I have with it is that the USB stick opens out on its own, but this is...

    strange hypos

I had a hypo with a reading of 10 once. My BS dropped suddenly from 25, I felt terrible at the time. That was in the early days, nowadays my BS averages 5-6 so I don't feel hypo until about 3.4 I currently use 10 units of lantus once a day, and 4-6 units of Novorapid at mealtimes.

Low carb diet and Type 1 Diabetes

Sue, Using the Atkins diet was an analogy, you missed my point. What I'm trying to say is what works for Diabetes may (and ONLY may) have a knock on effect for other disorders, whether metabolic or otherwise.

Low carb diet and Type 1 Diabetes

I'm with StuBoy on this one. However, there's an article in todays Daily Mail regarding Eddy Shah (he of the Today newspaper). Eddie is a type 2 diabetic, who when he hit 19st, went on the Atkins diet. All well and good until he developed a severe case of Gout. What I'm trying to say is low carb...

    Blocked Posts

Can anyone tell me why a recent post on excercise was 'Blocked'? I know that low carbing is not the forum's philosophy, or that certain people are receiving royalties from Bernstein, but it sure looks that way. I thought that we had freedom of speech?

    diabetes and working night shifts

Hi Drew, Basal Bolus is a long lasting insulin, normall lasting for 24 hrs, such as Lantus(brand name). You would supplement this with rapid acting insulin at mealtimes. It is a very good way of controlling your BS's, as it replicates what the body does naturally. I too work a rolling shift...

    Hypo Question

My advise would be to eat a little often. looking at what you eat and the timescale in between, it is little wonder your BS's are low.

    Diabetes Food Products

Hi Funkybabe76, My advice would be to steer clear of any foodstuff specifically targeted or labelled 'Diabetic', it invariably is a total waste of money. You don't say if your parents are type 1 or 2, I ask this because most of these drinks are high carb/high sugar, which if they are type 2...

    Still unwell and Scunnered!

Sorry to hear you feel unwell, 4 weeks isn't really long enough to sort out your BS. Glucose sticks to your red blood cells for their lifetime (approx 100 days). This is where your HBa1c comes into play, ideally you should have one done on diagnosis, to use as a benchmark, and then another after...
