Migraine aura with type 2 diabetes

I have developed a headache aura after going keto. (I’ve been on keto for a month now to try and sort out a different problem I’m having with my BG sensitivity to steroids). I have thought of a number of causes, like you. Dehydration, lack of protein, lack of salt etc. I’ve not really got...

    Mastering diabetes

I thought I’d throw my tuppence worth in as I’ve been reading all the posts with interest. We all know we’re all different, some of us have other equally serious conditions to contend with. For me it’s an inherited kidney condition called PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease. After 2 transplants...

Does the Freestyle Libre continuous monitoring work for type 2

I’ve been using freestyle libre since July last year. Self funded as don’t qualify as type 2. I was not allowed to attend the training at the hospital but my local DN arranged for me to attend a Training session with a type 1 user at the clinic. This points out that there is a difference...

    Wondering about coming off metformin

Personally I have reduced or come off as many drugs as I could throughout my adult life. But there are some that I cannot of course and these (anti-rejection etc) I take as prescribed. I did manage to get my diabetes medication (gliclizide) down to one 40mg tablet per day last year with an...

    High readings on holiday

In York and over 12 peaking at 17.3. Only 21 carbs all day. Walked 10,000 plus steps. Go figure! I’m flummoxed!

    Recovery from making a mistake

I did exactly the same a few years ago and had to wait for almost 6 (very worried)weeks before my pancreas settled down but my blowout was a big bigger than yours (a box of quality street). But everything did eventually settle down thank goodness, although to this day I regret it as the end...

    Who has had steroids?

My diabetes was kicked off by having steroid treatment for gout in 2012. I have also been on 5mg Prednisolone as part my anti rejection medication following my kidney Transplant (caused by Polycystic Kidney Disease not diabetes) in 2013 and this is causing me considerable problems with BS control.

What was your bg reading last night and this morning?

8.7 at 10.30 last night and 6.1 at 8am this morning. These are usually my best readings. The rest of the day I’m up around 11 and 13. I’ve lost the good control I had last year. Working hard to get it back but it’s a struggle.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

5.4 which is about average these days. Today is lovely and warm and I’ve gone back to bed with a mug of nice hot tea.

    Breakfast and lunch trouble

For breakfast I alternate between two staples. The first is Greek yoghurt with berries i.e strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. The other is a bit off the wall and is mostly chopped raw veggies. Broccoli, courgette, tomatoes, sugar snap peas, cheese, Ham, avocado cucumber, etc. The...

Rising BS levels but don’t know why

Yours is a much more difficult problem than mine it seems. On 20mg I would have to go back on insulin I think. I have followed the low carb healthy fat routine for some years now which is how I’ve managed to get what control I do have. I find that hot weather is also a game changer...

Rising BS levels but don’t know why

I have this exact problem. Although on a fairly low dose of Prednisolone (5mg) daily it appears to stop my insulin production in its tracks. My blood sugars rise steadily during the morning, even if I’m fasting. (My overnight BG is normally fairly good at between 4.8 and 5.6. ). I have found...

Take Your Own Responsibility, not Rely On Others

I agree that we as individuals should take responsibility for our own health. How we do this, whether finding the support systems like this forum and the NHS or finding the right healthcare as in other countries, is really up to us. Since diagnosis I have had my ups and downs both with my...
