    New Support Group Ideas

Thanks very much for your feedback, guys! T1DY is growing on me too, so maybe that'll be it! I completely agree, support from fellow diabetics is invaluable and I'm really hoping we can achieve something with this group. I'll let you know how we get on.

    pump names

I personally favour 'Pumphrey' but 'Ralph' was also a short-listed contender ;)

    New Support Group Ideas

Hello everyone, I am in the process of starting a support group for young people with type one diabetes in my local area. We're in the very early stages and it's been going well so far but what we're really stuck on is a good name! We wanted something catchy and modern, possibly an acronym...

    Panic

Harry, First of all, as a pump user myself, I know how tricky it can be to get things 100% right all the time. And then to get a random 30 on the blood glucose monitor it can really shake you up. Even though it's horrible and you can spend ages blaming yoursel,f I don't think there is much...

    Beach Holiday

Hello guys! I just wanted to ask your advice about how you deal with holidays, especially beach/sun/sand trips. I know it's common to detach the pump and go back to injections for a week or so, but I'm not really keen to do this. I tend to insert the cannula in my stomach but this isn't ideal...

    pumping and exercise

Thanks very much, Jopar! I was following a low-carb diet when I was on MDI which meant that I could start exercising with a good BS and it would remain constant throughout. My diet is still fairly low-carb (30-50g per day) so I'm hoping that I'll see the same results on the pump...wishful...

    pumping and exercise

I've been pumping for approx. three weeks now and so far so good, albeit alot of adjustment and fine-tuning. I'm still trying to crack my basal rates so I've been up at all houors of the night and fasting like nobody's business ! I'm hoping it's all going to pay off. I haven't done any...

    getting a pumppppppp!

Hi everyone! I'm so excited as I got my pump last Friday and this morning I went live with real insulin. It's so great to finally have it. I know it's going to take a while for things to get sorted with basal rates, exercise and everything else, but I feel so much happier. I was initially...

Low carb foods and sugar free

This website looks good but I'm a little confused by the nutritional information. For the chocolate brownies, it states that one contains 9.1g carbs, but that the net carbs per brownie is 3.9. Where did they get the net carb figure from? Thanks!

    Animas 2020 versus Paradigm Veo

Hi everyone, Thanks for all your useful posts. Wow, it's quite the decision. I'm sure I'll be happy whatever I get, but it still seems tough choosing. I know, it's such a luxury to have a choice! I'll let you know how I get on :) Beth

    Animas 2020 versus Paradigm Veo

Hey guys, I'm really excited as I'm just about to order my insulin pump!! I've given a lot of thought as to which I'd like (I'm lucky that my diabetes centre is able to offer a choice of about five). I've narrowed it down to the Animas 2020 and Paradigm Veo. I can't decide which is more...

Nuts - which ones are best for diabetics?

Ardberg, All nuts are fine in moderation apart from cashews and peanuts, which are actually a type of pea. However, if you avoid these two you are still left with a whole host of others - hazelnuts, brazil nuts, walnuts, pecans, macademias, pistachios, almonds and then all the seeds that...

    Treating hypos

Thanks again for the help. Katie, no, weight loss isn't my sole aim. My goal is to improve my blood sugar numbers and I was worried and frustrated that after being hypo I'd hit 10. I hadn't expected it to rise so much, that's why I was wondering how others dealt with hypos. It's probably just...

    Treating hypos

Thanks for your responses, guys, it's good to hear what others do. Yes, I normally know exactly how much glucose I need to take to raise a low, but I think this day was just an off one. I had been low earlier and was also rushing around quite alot, so I think a combo of things that i hadn't...

    Treating hypos

Hi everyone, I'm a type one and I've been very happy with the low-carbing lifestyle. However, I've recently had a bit of difficulty with my control and I've been having more hypos. I wanted to know how other type one low-carbers dealt with low BS. I'm assuming we all deal with it with glucose...
