Good luck - to both of you! Be prepared to have big improvements in your blood glucose levels ........and quickly too. Cutting back on carbs really does work! Best wishes - John

type 2 and new to this please help

Hi Jen, In my opinion, the main lesson that non-insulin dependent Type 2s need to learn is the importance of cutting back dramatically on the starchy carbohydrates - i.e. cereals, bread, potatoes, pasta and rice. That usually leads to a big improvement in blood glucose levels and very quickly...

Porridge - which is best for you?

That's the first lesson I learnt too when I started testing. I keep well away from it these days - and from almost every other cereal too!

    Fruit

Hi Sue - Perhaps you could explain what that means too? Ken didn't seem to make a comment - he asked a series of questions. Perhaps it's just me who is thick! John

    Fruit

No I haven't ever had anything like that as far as I am aware. Please explain why you think that I should ask for such a test - what would such a test tell me?

    A1C3 test

Hi Bob - It's good to meet you. Yes with an HbA1c of less than 5% you are in a very small club indeed. I'm hoping to get there myself before too long. How did you get there? What advice do they give you in the US? Best wishes from England - John

Low carb, increased fat, falling Trigs

That really is a wonderful success story Clearviews! Keep telling it to inspire others! Wonderful numbers across the board. I'm particularly envious of your HDL because I can't get mine to move outside of the range 1.0 to 1.3. Very best wishes from England - John

    Fruit

Hi Ken, Quite simply, I hardly ever test at two hours because whenever I do I'm nearly always on the way down and it's the waste of a good test strip - it tells me nothing. In fact, a lot of the tests that I quote above were done after eating pieces of fruit at one hour intervals - i.e. the...

    itchy

Yes - I used to get a quite severe itching of the scrotum at a time when my blood glucose levels were at their highest. At the time, I never even thought of it as being related to my diabetic condition. However, it's another one of those things that has gone away altogether since I sorted out...

    Fruit

Hi borderter, I too love fruit and have shown below what it has on me from some tests that I carried out recently. I'm a non-insulin dependent Type 2 on metformin. I seem to be quite different to many others on these diabetes forums with regard to the effect that fruit has on my blood glucose...

    DUK T2 Testing Survey

I'd not been aware of this survey - thanks for pointing it out. I've submitted my responses.

Porridge - which is best for you?

Hi Ardberg, My advice would be to steer clear of porridge altogether unless you have tested and found that some particular type has only minimal effects on your blood glucose levels. That certainly isn't the case for me - porridge shoves my levels into double figures! Best wishes - John

    HB1AC

Great news bedshaped2000!!!! You sound to be well on track!!!! Keep it up!!!! I'm certain that because you drive for a living, it makes it even more important for you than for others to keep away from medications for as long as you can - if only to avoid the restrictions and difficulties that...

    Porridge and Low Carbs

Yes Debs - you are like most of us who have been led down the garden path by the advice that we have had from our healthcare professionals. It took me eight years to come to understand that it was their advice that was causing my Type 2 condition to worsen - or the inevitable progression of...
