Letter telling me must use new meter

Hiya I got the same letter and also had the immediate reaction of being cross as I like my meter and got it to suit my lifestyle. I too, however, did some research and realised the cost implications and went to my appointment with the surgery with a view to embracing whatever they needed me...

How often do you do it?

naughty like you and re-use needles half a dozen times until they feel bit blunt!! Touch wood never had a problem. I could say having read this I'll make more effort but I know I won't

    BG behaviour and exercise

Hi I've always been really cautious with exercise, and reduced insulin and ended up high!! I find high cardio like running will drop it during and very short term afterwards. Cycling / gym has very little effect, and more muscle exercise like swimming puts it up! Certainly don't get...

    Running

I've been T1 for 2 years. I run and have found that anything over about 4 miles drops my BG quite a lot so always start out at a level some will tut at of about 9. Then when I'm back I'll be around 7 and around 30 mins after return I'll be around 5. I run after a meal and reduce insulin...

    Carb counting...

Diagnosed 2 years ago as T1 with a trip to hospital as my BG was 31. Hospital stabalised me and then advised me on carb counting straight away. They got me an appointment with a dietician who also went through carb counting. Reading some of this I think I was lucky! But seeing as I'm on the Isle...

    You know you're a T1 when...

Ha brilliant thread!! and all so true! Especially for me the diet coke and counting up your insulin units as the menu is announced! I knew I was T1 when I had to buy a bigger hand bag, and could no longer take the dog for long walks, or go for cycle rides without a stash of equipment! I also...

    Camel Milk

And to go with the milk shakes they're using it to make chocolate and ice cream! Oh the glorious irony as the diabetics get to eat such things to 'lower our BG'!!! I really don't fancy the job of milker though as they're grumpy beggars!!!

    Camel Milk

Hi Anyone else hear on Radio 2 that researchers have found camel milk to have a protein containing insulin in it, which actually doesn't get destroyed by the human digestive system? All trials (OK.... not many yet!!) are showing that there is a deinite reduction in insulin needs for T1 with...

How to avoid spikes after eating

Hi Jessie 2 things..... 1st my DS told me NOT to take as much as 15 mions beforehand as you risk going hypo after meal, she said just the 5 mins and it has helped reduce my spikes! 2nd... yep half unit pen, loads more accurate :-D

How to avoid spikes after eating

Hi Jessie I have the same problem!! Limited carbs, same diet restrictions etc and good readings after 3-4 hours, yet spikes at 2 hours!! I tried increasing Novorapid or Levimir but like you end up low. Another T1 advised I have my Novorapid 5 mins earlier... no more as I risked going low.... so...

What about when I am old?

Does bother me at times but I don't let it get to me if possible! I just try to keep control good and have a healthy lifestyle as then I figure I'm giving myself the best chance! I figure there's plenty of non-diabetics who are less healthy than a lot of us and some get health problems and...
