Not really, I just want a bit advice regarding insulin.

Free Money will get more views than something like... insulin advice.

Anyway I had sausage and chips for tea from the chippy as a treat. Before food my reading was 5.0 and I took 4u novorapid.

2 hrs later 6.7
3 hrs 9.6
And 4.5 hrs 11.7.

I was happy with the 2 hr reading but knew the food would digest slow and I would get a later spike.

When this happens is it common practice to take a few units as a correction dose? And if so would it be better after the 2 or 3 hour reading?

Also I'm still honeymooning and readings are a bit erratic, normally a lot lower than the spike ive just had.

Cheers John.

Hi @Jc3131

Not remotely an expert, but with something like that - a favourite for me too - I would be tempted to split the dose. Maybe start with half and half and work from there?

Hi @Jc3131 It certainly got my attention, had to check to make sure it wasn't a scam ;)

The fat in the meal would cause the delayed spike, it's trial and error I'm afraid in regards to doing a split dose, my theory is as long as you eat it early enough in the evening then it helps you manage the food before bedtime and prevents you running high over night.

I feel sometimes meals like this are better for a lunch. I might be an exception as I suspect most people won't try eating 2 12" pizzas, but eating such large quantities sugars can continue rising close to 12 hours later. Obviously trying things like this would be easier if you can keep tracking what's going on to learn best way to inject for them.

Hiya hun, i used to do that and i ended up in a bad cyclenof hypos ans hypers my consultant and nurse specialist told me novorapid lasts for 4 hours so if youbwere to use a correction dose after yoir forst hit you will clash and hypo therefore having to have sugar then going to high they both said if you are to do correction doses then do it during your normal meal doses, least now you know that 4 units isnt enough maybe it is worth next time something like that javing 5 or 6 units and see how you get on, i use an app called carbs an cals and you can put your meal in (although it doesnt contain everything) then put in yoir bg before your meal and it tells you how many units you are likely to need plus any correction doses you mah need

People who try and make Diabetes the centre of the party and poor me, I'm special because I have diabetes now everyone run around after me.
I'm disappointed, I was expecting that I was somehow related to a Nigerian Prince that wanted to give me millions of Dollars and all I needed to do was send a few thousand to enable him to send me the millions... Oh well I will get email/phone call/ text sometime soon with a similar offer.

Cheers for the replies.

The most insulin I've ever took in one go is 4 units. Any more scares me a little as my pancreas sometimes plays little games with me.

In time I know I will have to inject more.

I would definitely give a correction in those circumstances, especially because 4-5 hours later the insulin will be completely done so you don't have to worry about stacking. In my case, insulin lasts about 2 hours in the body so I would certainly correct at the 3 hour mark, but if insulin is a bit slower for you you might not.

Have you eaten from this place before? If not, you may have incorrectly guessed the amount of carbs. I find that hot chips are often difficult to bolus for and so I tend to avoid them.

Now gimme my money!!
