hello all, still unable to get blood/glucose levels down my average is 14.6 the lowest I have recorded was 7.2 that was first thing in morning, after breakfast shot back to 17.2 last week I was feeling very dizzy and confused so I took B/G and found it was 21.8 yet I had not eaten anything for over 5 hours, the DN started me on 500mg Metformin but after 6 weeks and no improvement I saw the practice Doctor who is the specialist for diabetes and he doubled the dose telling me to take 1 in morning with b/fast then the next at 17:00 with food, I have followed to the letter the correct food to eat keeping it all low carb even the milk is Almond juice, I know the Prednisolone Steroid is causing this but I have now been reduced to 20mg that's come down in steps from 60mg back in September, and next month it is being reduced over the month to nil and a new drug is going to be taken the new meds is called Methotrexate and I will have to take 7.5mg once a week 5mg Folic Acid the following day, I'm hoping that my B/G levels will return to normal, has anyone had any experience with this medication?
P:S Booked to have HbA1c bloods done next month

Hi. I take methotrexate It makes no difference to your blood glucose but does make you feel a bit ordinary the next day, so pick a day of the week to take it that allows for this. Cheers Leeanne

I was prescribed prednisolone a few years ago and went from being perfectly well controlled with metformin to having to inject 60 units of insulin twice a day. Even that wasn't enough so added glyclazide, still not enough so dropped the glyclazide and added trulicity injection once a week. Finally bg in the 7 to 8 range but dn happy. I assumed that when I stopped the steroids the high bg's would go away. No such luck.
I am now doing the lchf and my bg is anything from 4.6 to 6.6. I have reduced the insulin to 35 units twice a day. I tried to talk to my dn on the phone but she said that :they don't agree with these fad diets " and that I should eat low gi carbs 4 times a day. I have to wait a month to see her and have my yearly bloods taken. I feel that I'm floundering a bit because I'm not absolutely sure when I can stop the insulin completely.

Big doses of prednisone will certainly do that to your glucose levels/.
