Hi there, my name is Lottie. I have two sons, my eldest being diagnosed at 17 and now 22, my second son has been with presenting with symptoms, mainly slight bed wetting, increased thirst and headaches. He is 17 today and eats very well. I took a urine sample into the docs yesterday and they called straight back too say it was full of ketones and sugar and have given him a monitor to test for a week before meals. They also took blood to test before meals and the results are consistent at 4.2.

There is a family history of T1 in the family, my dad and my grandad and further along the male side of my father.

Has anybody else experienced anything like this, I really don't understand and am awaiting the blood test results back from the doctors, which I'm expecting to be normal.
Thank you

How consistent at 4.2? Like an average or every reading is 4.2?

Check that the test strips are in date and try using the monitor to measure blood glucose after a meal (one hour after first bite) - if you get a rise in blood glucose it at least shows that the monitor is capable of registering higher glucose levels.

Get the urine retested for glucose and ketones in case there was a faulty test or mix-up at the surgery.

If it is confirmed that blood glucose levels are normal and urine does contain glucose, then further tests are needed. There are a number of causes:-
