Lantus still the go-to basal?!

Hi fellow T1s!

Is Lantus still the go-to basal insulin these days? I used it for years but switched to Levemir during pregnancy. Thinking of going back to Lantus now, but wanted to see if there's anything newer or better out there? And are there any current concerns about Lantus (I vaguely remember cancer rumours from years ago)?

I’ve heard of Semglee, but since it only doses in whole units, that’s a no-go for me—I often use half units.

Also, does anyone know the best pen for Lantus now? I love my Novo Echo (half units, dose memory, timer), but sadly I don’t think it works with Lantus. JuniorSTAR was suggested, but it doesn’t have a timer.

Would love to hear what others are using—thanks!

P.s not considering a pump, happy with pens for now x

I am on Toujeo which is a more concentrated advance on Lantos
So I was told on a previous post (still Glargine)

I was on Lantus for years but about 2 yrs ago I was told by my surgery under instruction from the NHS that they would not be prescribing it any more to save money and would give me Semglee instead , it made no difference so no worries .

Was on Lanctus but was changed to Levemir due to the “ unreliablilty” of Lanctus my overnight bad sugars were much better . I only took Lanctus once a day but Levemir twice. I have since heard Levemir is not being used but do know when as yet

I was on levimir, it’s being discontinued so was swapped to tresiba have had terrible issues with high bs, turned out its stacking because it lasts so long and I don’t need many units, so have been changed today, after a slight prescription error, to humalog i, which I think also may not be in half units, which I really need, but I’m giving it a go, can’t be any worse I’ve hardly been in the green for several months, so hope a change suits you better
