At the risk of wearing out my welcome this technical numpty is back with what is no doubt another stupid question. Bit of background - I'm a carer for my wife who is starting to suffer from dementia - occasionally she'll go out and lose track of where she is, where she should be and how to get back home. Its a problem that can only get worse and we've solved it for the moment by putting an Apple Tag tracker on her bus pass that she wearson a lanyard around her neck. I had to buy an iPad for this to link to and I can now see where she is using the FindMy app. I then discovered that the iPad only works when it has an internet connection using WiFi, which means that if I go out to look for her I lose the connection unless I find a pub or cafe where I can connect - not ideal. SO - I'm now considering swapping my Android phone for an Apple phone which will retain the connection, but I'm now just wanting to check - will the Abbot Libre 2+ app run on an iPhone? I was surprised to find that it won't do so on the brand new iPad...

Thanks - this IS probably a daft question but when you're approaching 80 technical questions can get a bit confusing at times...

Hi @Coffeemonster ,

Does she have a smartphone with her? If so, you can locate her by using an app called find my device: https://www.android.com/intl/en_ca/learn-find-my-device/

Or have a google search on Android GPS tracker, those should work with your phone. Much easier and cheaper than buying and getting used to a new phone.

Good luck!
No, she doesn't have a phone - she's lost three this year already, and when she had one she couldn't remember how to make or answer a call. Thats why we went down the Apple Tag route.

Meh. If you read what I wrote you'll see that we already bought the Apple Tag AND an iPad with which to track it. I simply want to know whether the Abbott app runs on an iPhone if I decide to change. Sheesh...

My apologies.
I use android so I'm not sure with which iPhones it will work.
I tried to be helpful by letting you know you can buy a 20 or 30 £ android tag instead of a complete new phone.

It’s not a stupid question at all, and the answer is that the libre software should work on an iPhone. However there have been multiple reports on here of it loosing the connection with the latest version of the Apple software (iOS). I can’t comment on that as I used third party software on my iPhone which doesn’t have a problem. Here’s the post I saw before.

A lot of companies don't make Apps available on iPad purely due to the fact they only design most apps for iPhone, as that's what the majority of people use for such apps. Slightly annoying, but it'd cost more to make the app for iPhone and iPad. But on that note, the app will work on iPhone models 7 and over and iPhones that use iOS 11 or higher (as per https://www.freestyle.abbott/sa-en/...wer.html?q=freestyle-librelink-tab-question-2)

Lakeslover, thank you for this; that thread is very informative. I'm astonished that a company like Abbott can't configure an app which supports their product to work on a huge sector of the smartphone market. If I were them I'd either be kicking on the door of the in-house IT department or employing an external IT contractor to make the app compatible with every system possible. Its also surprising that no independent app developer has created something to fill the gap.

It seems I shall have to go down the e-reader route which is a sham because the phone app currently relays my stats to my local Diabetes Support Clinic where they actively monitor all of their patients. I already have the e-reader originally supplied with the Abbott system but its been sitting in a drawer ever since I got the much more convenient phone app.

I have an iPhone 14 Pro running iOS 18.6.2 which is the latest update. I think Abbott just don’t update their compatibility list as often as they should. I wear a Libre 2+ and the LibreLink app works just fine with it.

I use those features you mention @Coffeemonster . I have an iPhone 16 pro . I'm on v. 18.6.2 . I have an 9th generation iPad, and the Apple tags . I 'hot spot' my iPhone to my iPad as my iPad, like yours, doesn't have its own wifi connect. I find the Abbott App works perfectly well on my iPhone. I have had very few problems with it. I wear a Libre 2 + .

Its that man again! So - I took the plunge and got an iPhone thinking that if things didn't work I could always sell it again. I don't use my phone for much except calls, texts and the occasional bit of navigation so I'm not interested in phone contracts with phone purchase built in; I buy secondhand phones and have a sim-only deal on a rolling 30-day contract which does everything I need at an economical price. I found a site on eBay where they're selling new iPhone 14s - still a bit pricey but I can recoup some of that from selling my Android Galaxy S21. Anyway, just to put the tail on this thread, and to provide a bit more information for anyone thinking along the same lines, I have an iPhone 14 with the OS upgraded to iOS18.6 and the Libre 2 app is working perfectly. Big sigh of relief!

I’m running a 12 mini latest IOS no probs I’ve been thinking of getting a new iPhone but all the new ones are too big ! When I canny download the latest IOS I’ll bite the bullet maybe by then the might do a folding one
