Hi everyone! Do you think there will ever be any weight loss injections (or even a pill) that can be taken with a history of retinopathy? I am losing but slowly but certainly could do with some help. Thanks.

I have been told I have diabetic macular oedema and had my first of 3 injections last week. I am also having Mounjaro injections for my diabetes and weight loss (weight loss not happening) my numbers are down but I have been hearing about the connection Mounjaro has to eye problems. I've gone onto a panic and am thinking of giving up Mounjaro. The diabetic team in this area which I have just moved into, is shocking non existent. I have no idea what to do. I'm sure it must have been discussed but I've only just joined this group. I wonder if Mounjaro caused my already problematic eye problems. Can anyone advice?

I believe it depends on the stage of your retinopathy. I'm on Trulicity, which is a GLP inhibitor, but not on of the ones currently being prescribed as a weight loss drug, although it's definitely an appetite suppressant for me, and has helped reduce the "food noise" volume too. I've got stage 1 retinopathy and maculopathy

I was told I couldn’t have Mounjaro because I have mild background retinopathy.

You really need to discuss with your diabetic team and ophthalmologist whether there could be any connection with your macular oedema. I would certainly do that before considering stopping the treatment.
