Porridge for breakfast, crustless quiche with salad for lunch and chicken with vegetables for tea.

I managed to do a bit more clearing out of the indoor shed, making good progress - I can't wait to start organising it so it can be a functional storage area rather than a black hole of doom! I'm thowing out a lot of bulky things that are beyond use - old garden chair seat pads that are falling apart for example. Stored for 20 years! I found a meat grinder I forgot I had so might try making chicken burgers and sausages at some point in the near future.

Been up for 6+ hours but haven't got around to breakfast yet - just a cup of tea about 3 am. Can't decide what to do about breakfast. There's fish, but I'll be having salmon for my 2nd meal so probably not. Eggs (plenty) but I don't really fancy eggs (or bacon, which I also have). No cottage or soft cheese left which I might have had with some berries. Oh Dear. Just can't think.

EDIT: 5 past one now. I had some cheddar and some grapes for breakfast.

I have some bananas (very black now) to use up. I asked Neil to get them for me for some baking I wanted to do but didn't feel well enough to do it. I really have to do it today, or throw them in the compost bin. Still lacking any get-up-and-go though and just want to sleep. That's all I ever feel like doing these days.

Porridge for breakfast, ham salad for lunch and it will be pan fried haddock with vegetables for tea.

I noticed my 9 star broccoli (which is more like a cauliflower) is producing heads, which will be harvested at about tennis ball size, then it should produce a number of smaller heads from the stem. It's perennial so will do the same next year and lasts a few years before it needs replacing. I'm looking forward to seeing how it tastes!

It's set to get very windy here this evening but only about half of what Scotland will be seeing - hope you will all be ok up there @Annb x

I like the sound of that broccoli. I've never seen or heard of it before. What is the flavour like?

As far as weather goes, it's so far so good here. Dulled down a bit from early on but calm (the calm before the storm?) Just now Neil is outside creosoting some wood to rebuild part of our fence after one of the last storms but it won't be put up today. Not to worry, that part of the garden is a tangle of long grass, shrubs and tree trunks, so I doubt if anything will try to get into the garden.

It's the first time I've grown it so I haven't tasted it yet - It'll be a few weeks before it's ready I think. I'll let you know! I've got them in large containers, they grow to about 1m tall so you need big ones. I wasn't ready to commit to having them in the ground last season but I might use one of the raised beds for them this year, along with kalettes which I will be trying for the first time this season (another one you might be interested in, little kale sprouts grow up a stem like brussels but they're easier to grow).

Breakfast: 2 of the oat and banana cookies, a few grapes and a cup of tea. Oats and banana are both bad, of course, but I needed to check them out and they tasted fine. I've found that I can't get them to the lady I was developing the recipe for in the near future so Alistair will have to take them and use them.

2nd meal will be fish salad. A restricted salad because I've run out of tomatoes but there's other stuff to use.

Porridge for breakfast, cheese salad for lunch and I still haven't decided on tea yet!

Today I've been fighting with the hedge that needs drastic pruning - it got completely out of control when I was caring for mum, so I need to get it back into shape again now. The hedge is pyracantha, hawthorn, honeysuckle and ivy - all of those don't mind being cut right down and should bounce back well.

That really took it out of me so I ended up falling asleep, and I've only just had a shower and still don't really feel like eating. I might have another quick salad.
