Im well and truly stumped for snack ideas, especially bedtime/night time when I get cgm warning of getting low. I need lowest protein because I have ckd plus gout and need to avoid it, lowest fat because I end up in hospital from gallbladder otherwise, low sugar because I have very high cholesterol which os bad with heart problems, and of course high carbs cause spikes. Im pulling my hair out! Oh and I have some chewing issues. Ideas anyone??
Similar dilemma, with T2D calling for low carbs, so high protein, and huge uric acid kidney stones and deteriorating kidney function calling for a gout diet, including avoiding oxalates. Of course I can't advise you medically, but just to say, a dietician didn't help me - she said she specialised in diabetes, not kidney issues, and anyway was of the "low fat, low animal protein, high complex carbs" school which had failed me. You can try to find a dietician specialising in renal problems.
The conclusion I reached was to carry on with my low carb diet, (avoiding a lot of oxalate, but not dark chocolate!), until and unless tests showed a further marked deterioration in my kidney function. To balance out the conflicting demands according to where the more severe issue is. And to try to neutralise my acidic urine (and likely blood), I take potassium citrate (available as liquid or dissolvable tablets), using urine test strips to determine pH. I don't suffer from gout, but wonder if it would help. I personally don't worry about LDL, but that is controversial.
What is your CKD stage, your eGFR? You don't say if you are diabetic, but if not, I don't see why you can't have healthy carbs in your diet, and include some sweets made with safe sugar substitute - either home made or Holland and Barratt has some tasty biscuits. Good luck.
