"Nice meat for the grill," a grill master would say! As I said in my introduction, "I'm always flirting between life and death." I'm a psychiatric patient; my diagnosis is "residual schizophrenia." That means I had a schizophrenic episode in the past, and then it went away (with medication). I take my psychiatric medication every day and I walk on my own. And well, I inherited diabetes from my mother. I'm 61 years old. I started smoking at 16 and never stopped. Also, I drank red wine with meals my whole life (that gave me gout and fatty liver). I'm allergic to allopurinol and I also have a heart condition and high blood pressure. I've rarely been able to quit smoking, but I always go back to it after a while. I know I'm not a good example, although when I decide to take care of myself, I'm very strict. Eight days ago, after a long time, I drank a bottle of wine, and it triggered a gout attack. I was walking on one leg. Today my symptoms disappeared. I take medication for my heart, blood pressure, schizophrenia, and fatty liver. I also take some supplements that I won't list because I don't even dare recommend aspirin anymore. I'm slowly learning the forum rules. I'm 1.81 meters tall and used to weigh 105 kg. Now, with diet, I've managed to get down to 100 kg. I hope I haven't broken any forum rules. Any advice is always welcome. Cheers!

When it comes to the smoking, don't give up giving up. I was a 20 a day smoker who quit many times before it stuck, I tried cold turkey, patches (was allergic to the sticky), gum, lozenges, it did eventually stick (although I gained A LOT of weight) I've been "clean" for about 20 years now. Be kind to yourself chronic heath conditions are difficult to live with, in the words of the song. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start all over again

Thanks Lessci for your advice. I think everyone is different, and not all cases are the same. I worked for 15 years as a fumigator and contaminated my body with toxic chemicals. That's why I have a double risk of getting cancer, but so far nothing bad has happened to me, except that I sometimes get agitated. Once, I had quit smoking for two months, and I had the misfortune of being robbed, which ruined my finances. I recovered, but at that time I was so nervous I was about to explode with anger. Some "friends" suggested I start smoking again, and I let myself be swayed by their advice and went back to smoking. Now I understand that they weren't true friends. Even so, it was my decision to start smoking again (I can't blame others for my decisions). Some people help you, and some people don't. I appreciate your advice, and I think I'll manage it one day. What hurts the most is that my dog is a passive smoker, and he's not to blame for this. I have to get my head around it. Greetings and thank you very much for your words.

I loved smoking, 1st thing in the morning, with a cuppa, after a meal, last thing at night. Tried the patch, gave me nightmares. Now I'm addicted to the lozenges, that was 10 yrs ago. Can't imagine smoking again though, one day at a time, don't give up trying though.
