Hi, y'all, so i take four 500mg Metformin a day, two morning two after last meal. I just had my last meal and went to take my meds. I took the first one, but then something happened which caused me to get distracted, and now I don't know if I took the second one plus an extra. I'm worried now, because I'm soon going to sleep and this hasn't ever happened! Am I going to be ok?

This reply will probably be far too late but safest is not to take another (just in case) best leave it as it is

No personal experience with metformin but - as what it does is slow down your liver making new glucose, the worst that can probably happen is maybe your BG might be ever so slightly higher for a few hours than it would otherwise have been.

Metformin has no impact on starches/sugars in what you eat. Info from Bilous and Donnelly, Handbook of Diabetes.

My Daily Metformin dose is 2550 (3*850 a day) so I wouldn't panic about an overdose situation

I woke up the other morning to discover I'd completely forgotten to take my metformin the previous evening; it was still in my pill box! The occasional missed dose, or mistimed dose, as in your case, won't matter, but not a good idea to do it too often! And they do tell you not to take it if you've got a tummy upset and can't eat, or if you are going to have to fast for any reason, like a colonoscopy or similar. Do you dispense your metformin into a weekly pill box, so you can see at a glance what you have or haven't taken? I find it not only helps remember, but also stops the horrible end-of-the-week almost-empty blister packs sitting around!
