One main aim for me when I was prescribed metformin and later dapagliflozin was to reduce my need for medication and get off them. It was also suggested I might need insulin and medication to reduce cholesterol and possibly blood pressure. Once my weight had dropped considerably my blood tests showed that I could come off medication and did not need statins. I never thought my fasting blood glucose could come down to 5.0 or just below, but that has given me the determination to get my HBA1c lower than the low of 39 from readings over the past 2 years. Sometimes I would like to cut out the exercise for a while, but it is necessary. I do take the figures literally as well as looking at longer term trends, since I like to keep my BG in a range. If I stop having excess carbohydrates then that will become easier.
