Hi
I have just been diagnosed with type 2 on Friday. I attended hospital on Friday morning (18/01/13) for a hysterectomy operation. This had already been cancelled twice before on 4th and 11th January because of a Nuro virus outbreak at the hospital. So here I am all prepare with my stocking and hospital gown on just about to go down to the theatre when they did my blood pressure, which was normal and a blood sugar test. It was 18! I have had no signs ie thirst, weeing loads, yes I have felt a bit tired but I have put this down to blood loss witch was the reason that I had been booked in for the hysterectomy. They took 2 further test which both read 18 and also did a blood test which confirmed that I was diabetic. I have got to go to the doctors on Tuesday 22nd for another blood test so that they can get a accurate reading, as I had fasted from 6:30 the evening before the op. i am booked into see my doctor on Friday for results and start medication. Must admit his weekend has been a total roller coaster. Lots of crying and feeling sorry for myself and ifs buts and whys. Should my blood sugar test have been tested at my pre op? I feel a little angry how things have gone, but thank goodness that they did the test before I went down to theatre.
