Hi, I am a newbie and my name is Anna. I am 51 years young and was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when I was 22.
So, my control over the years has been somewhat random, going from very controlled to "what diabetes?"
I have had a whole host of medical trauma over the past 4 years and my diabetic control is the worst ever.
I recently had a very bad hypo where my husband woke up to find me unconcious, breathing shallow and frozen solid. It took the ambulance 1.5 hours to get me back into the land of the living and an overnight stay in hospital, and sad as it is, this has been the necessary low for me to get myself sorted out.
I have an appointment with my new Diabetic Consultant (I have recently moved to a new area) in 4 weeks, and since the incident, I have been recording everything I eat, counting every carb, testing before and 2 hours after each meal etc etc.
I feel like right now this is my top priority, which is new as I always find it hard to put my needs before everyone elses. My BMs are all over the place and range from 1.9 to 27.
I was thinking of trying to eat the same breakfast, lunch and dinner for a week to take the variables out of what is happening.
I wondered if anyone had any ideas that could help me to get stable.
I haven't ever got involved in any diabetic forums/newsletters/groups etc........probably due to still being in denial after nearly 30 years, but would really appreciate any help or advice that anyone can give me as I really want and need to get control back.
Thanks for listening to me ramble on.
Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks. Anna
