As a 69 year old newly diagnosed Type 1 diabetic, ( 2 months ago ) who 9 months earlier was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic I have a problem with weight. One year ago I weighed 96 Kilos and after 9 months of treatment with metformina , Repagladina tablets and 1 injection of Lantus last thing at night, I was unable to keep my blood sugar under the 126 mg/dl level. I was counting Calories and Carbohydrates on a suggested diet of 1800 calories and ended up weighing only 66 Kilos by this August. My hospital specialist told me in August that I was actually type 1 diabetic and immediately put me on 3 injections of HUMALOG during the day and 1 injection of Lantus last thing at night. I am still on an 1800 calorie diet and am struggling to keep my sugar within the set parameters I was given between 140 mg/dl and 180 mg/dl , and have since lost another 2 kilos. My bones are sticking out all over my body and would appreciate any advice to increase my weight.

Thanks in anticipation of any help.

If your levels are still high and you are eating correctly maybe you need more insulin or an insulin adjustment { Speak to your Diabetic Specialist before changing doses! } If you have a meter that also checks Blood Ketones it may be worth checking them. Ketones show up in Blood Glucose before Urine so it is a more reliable test .. imo :) If you do have Ketones that would explain the continued weight loss. Good Luck , I hope you get sorted out soon :)

Hi Antonio and welcome to the forum sorry to hear you have been having problems.

I am T2 so will leave you in the hands of our many knowledgeable T1's

I will just say that it is not uncommon for diabetics especially T1's to lose weight prior to diagnosis or in your case wrongly diagnosed T2 as the condition itself can make you lose weight due to the body eating its own fat for fuel instead of the glucose that is usually uses as without insulin in your blood it can not utilise the glucose as it should.

Once you balance your insulin correctly you should feel much better and hopefully start putting back some of the weight youve lost.
