Diet drinks - the artificial sweeteners taste vile.
Having to forswear foods I have loved all my life.
Trying to find low carb meals when eating out.
I was wondering if seasons had a marked effect on diabetic symptoms.

A few reasons:

(1) Exercise takes a nose dive in the winter
(2) Diet takes a big hit over the Christmas period
(3) Sunlight (and the dreaded Vitamin D) are scarecer over winter.
(4) General motivation/positive outlook can also take a hit in the short, dark, grey days.

This poll is aimed at checking when most Type 2s were diagnosed.

It is not particularly scientific because people may only get fed up enough to go to the Doctor's for a checkup in winter so the onset of symptoms may be at any time.

However in my case the clasic signs appeared briefly in March at the end of Winter.

Ideally I would like to have twelve options (one for each month) but the poll only allows me ten so I will pair the months up and go for six.

Cheers

Ah.

You might want to rename the poll. I was diagnosed in June 2008, purely by chance. No symptoms at all.

I am not Type2 I am Insulin Resistant or Pre-Diabetic but I was "diagnosed" with that in November.

VBee - feel free to add your vote!

Still a small sample size but there does seem to be some signs of a trend - nearlt 2/3 diagnosed over the months of October to March.

Interesting that so many people were diagnosed in October/November - I would have expected more in December to March.

I was diagnosed in June, but I'd been experiencing symptoms for at least three months before that.

Just to bump this up to the top again for those who have not voted yet :)

To my eye the results do not conclusively point to winter being a bad time.

October/November seems a peak time for diagnosis followed by December/January, so that four month period counts for 45% of all diagnoses.

However I would expect diagnosis to lag behind the major onset of symptoms.

If this is true, then summer/autumn may be when things go bad.

I was expecting Januar/February and March/April to be top due to the bad effects of low sunlight, high food, reduced exercise in the preceding months.

Not a big enough sample to conclude anything, really, but still interesting. :)

Diqagnosed January (no symptoms whatsoever), only because my gym closed and I had to join a new one which wanted my doctor's approval due to age before signing me up.

Probably had diabetes for several years but did not show up at a previous medical because I was eating extremely healthily at that time.

I was diagnosed in January after being made by my family to go to the doctor - not knowing what was wrong with me but having been feeling awfully ill since 28th August(the week after the sudden death of my mum) :( doctor thinks this is why it was triggered!
