Hi again,

Obviously I like to post late at night. Quiet time kids not around. Not kids either 26 & 18 ha, ha. I don't test my bg levels at all, it was never suggested. Controlling at mo with diet and exercise, due to visit the hsp specialist about my cholestorel levels middle of next month to see how cholestorel has changed after 3 months on Statins. She will also check the diabetes as well. My bg level has varied between 7, 6.45 & 6.1 so far. Dr is very negative, seems more concerned about blood pressure which must be fine as never heard from him re wearing the monitor for 24 hrs.
Very pleased as have managed to lose a stone in weight and go cycling every day now for 1hr, complete an 8 mile circit I think.

Hi! My name is Sue and welcome to the forum, Chris! :D

Very pleased as have managed to lose a stone in weight and go cycling every day now for 1hr, complete an 8 mile circit I think.

Firstly, well done and congratulations on losing weight plus cycling as exercise! :D :D That's brilliant and keep up the good work! :D :D If it helps as encouragement: have been type 2 diab. since early May this year and lost just over 2 and half stone through change of diet and including exercise, brisk walking (helps that where I live is pretty much ALL uphill! :) ) and dance classes, Salsa being my favorite, therefore resulting in my forum name of 'salsasue'! Feel very well on the new lifestyle too, has to be said! :D

I do understand your doctor's checking blood pressure levels as that is a concern with diabetics; at the same time, I'm sorry and concerned for your sake, to read of your doc's negativity; unfortunately this is all too common but isn't of any help whatsoever to us folks that need to live and deal with the condition best we can! Has he suggested referring you to a diabetic specialist or nurse yet? If so you need to ask and persue this; did you receive a standard information pack for new diabetics yet? Sorry to ask you all these questions but just trying to ascertain what you've been told or not so far; have been fortunate in having a great specialist clinic here with 2 great nurses, Pat and Janet but realize not all areas have the same facility, sorry to say. :(

As regarding your blood sugar/blood glucose levels, what would really help you is a blood sugar meter, test strips and lancets to be able to test your readings on meals throughout the day which helps you establish which foods give a higher or lower reading; even 'healthy' foods can be different for various different diabetics. There is information elsewhere on this forum that will help you know guidelines as to blood sugar levels so please feel free to read further and check around! :)

It may well help to go back to the doctors and ask if there is a diabetic clinic within your health centre/surgery and be referred to that; this would be, I'm sure, more specialised and tailored to your needs and requirements as being diabetic. I wish you well, take care and all the best with your own personal 'journey',

best wishes, Sue
