Type 2 Newbie T2 overwhelmed by diet change

@Captain Crunch Welcome. There are several of us who live alone/cook for one. Yes, it can take some planning but remember the freezer - it's very useful, especially with microwave too ;) You say you cooked a tasty chicken dish recently :) (Feel free to divulge the recipe here ... ;) )...

I think I cured my diabetes!

Hi @Wojciechu I'm pleased your numbers have reduced significantly since stopping the steroids. I do hope your condition requiring the Methotrexate settles down and for you to cease needing the treatment. However, I'd like to just warn you that your experience with elevated blood glucose...

Type 2 Newbie T2 overwhelmed by diet change

Totally agree with you, @xfieldok @ivan 2 - not sure where you got your 'information' from but I definitely question the source. If it's your personal view, then I suggest you post elsewhere as LCHF is very popular amongst very many of the members here. Of course, you are entitled to your...

    Need advice with treating Hypos

If your son tried chocolate to treat a hypo, it may be worth checking how quickly chocolate brings up his blood sugar as, containing fats, may not be the best remedy. In case, you're not aware, fats tend to delay absorption of glucose which can be very useful in other circumstances. My...

Diagnosed over 4 years ago but have anxiety to test sugar levels

If you are in a position to buy, you could use Freestyle Libre. It's not CGM in that you do have to scan when you want to see your Glucose status. I very much doubt you would have one of these prescribed as you'd likely not fit any of the criteria. The Libre measures the glucose level in...

    Blood-stained ballot paper

Maybe you could put your form in a clear plastic bag (ie food bag) then fold and put in envelope. Include a note as to why it's in the bag, ie so they don't need to touch it (H&S) but can see your vote when they open the envelope I would have thought that would cover it from all angles ;)

    Type 1 Type 1 + Breast Cancer

    @Karenchq I can't offer you any advice but have had lumpectomy and radiotherapy 8 yrs ago so have empathy regarding that side of things. I wish you all the best and a speedy recovery to become a 'survivor' {{{Hugs}}}

    Cold remedies

I can't take any cold/flu remedies due to potentially very dangerous interactions with meds I take so I use steam inhalations several times during the day, normal saline nasal drops, drink lots of warm fluids, plenty of fresh air ;) My worst time is when I get middle ear infections (most...

    Type 2 4.1 HBA1C and metformin

@Rufous My understanding is that, although not usual nor common, Metformin CAN cause SOME people to hypo. Also, I totally agree with @bulkbiker - in that, although we can't give advice, given the information you've given, if it were me, I'd definitely consider not taking the Metformin but...

is it normal to have chronic pain with good levels

Current post re glucometers https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/blood-glucose-monitors.170162/ As you'll read, Glucometers can appear much cheaper than others but be sure to check out the price of the test strips - you'll be buying them on on-going basis ;) Well done for joining us all...

Does low carb reduce blood pressure?

Yes, I would suggest there is some correlation too. I recently lost a little bit more weight, on top of the 4st I've lost over the past few years, and for no apparent reason, my blood pressure was really low, I felt faint and dizzy and struggled with lack of energy etc. After a few weeks, went...

    Ketones

Pleased to hear someone had some good sense in A/E eventually. Talk about wasting your time, to say nothing of wasting NHS money. Sorry, that sounds like I'm blaming you, @bonkers82 but I'm meaning your GP, Nurse etc. Like I said, pleased to hear you're considered OK now. Hope you aren't...

    Freestyle Libre Sensor supply . . . . . . . yet again

Unfortunately, Boots stopped selling Libre sensors quite a while ago. Asda is reputed to be the least costly, as far as I know. I get mine from a local pharmacy at slightly more than the Asda price but Asda is much further away ;)

    Ketones

Hi @bonkers82 As already mentioned, it really doesn't seem anything worrying. You've likely got ketones in your urine because your body is burning fat. Again, as already said, it's when you show ketones AND high blood glucose levels that there is a big problem. @bulkbiker has hit the nail...

    Christmas advice ... Local News

At least, 'They' are clearly trying, but such a shame 'they' can't put the full message across, in my opinion. This is in my local newspaper (online) today, at an upcoming event, advising diabetics about how to enjoy Christmas without harming their health ...

    Libre availability

I admit to feeling very 'vunerable' without Libre now but, fortunately, I'm rarely without it - only if I've run out etc. It certainly does enlighten one regarding what is happening between finger pricking tests. I'll be very interested, as well, to learn how you get on @bulkbiker, and you...
