How do you deal with conflicting advice?

Just go by the empirical evidence that your meter supplies. It has no bias. And by the subjective results you personally see and feel. Anything else is just noise, you can find people on t’internet to support whatever view you want validating. Other people are made very uncomfortable when...

Any fish recipes that are easy and quick to do

Basa AKA River Cobbler fillets taste of nothing at all, IMO, fresh or frozen. I tried them once and won’t be repeating that since I like fish to taste of fish! But they might suit your requirements, I imagine that nutritionally they are fine. Tinned sardines are nice on a chaffle or in a...

    confused about milk carbs

Milk is kryptonite for me, one of the foods I am really intolerant of, carb-wise. Double cream has replaced it and doesn’t upset my BG, I guess because I use less of it and it has a higher fat content. I even dilute cream with water and steam it for latte! Diabetes is very personal, the only...

    Almond Flour

If it’s a costco brand it’s likely American, in which case you would need to subtract the fibre from the total carbs. They label carbs differently in the US. In the UK fibre is already separated from the total carb amounts.

Finger prick BG testing obsession, help please!

If you a logical type of personality that just needs bit of extra reassurance, how about a food log? Either use an app or a spreadsheet, keep a list of meals with before and after readings. If you have say, three, good outcomes after eating a particular meal or foodstuff, colour it green and...

    Oh, heck…

I would just say, be kind to yourself and do not expect to carry in as normal. I had a breast cancer scare (recalled for biopsy after a routine mammogram) and there’s no way that I could ‘not worry’, I was fairly out of my mind and very stressed. Fortunately it turned out to be benign but it...

    Being diabetic aint cheap :O

I eat good quality sausages and burgers, you can find ones with very low carb content if you look around. I have abandoned chicken breast in favour of either chicken legs (around £2 for 4) or chicken thighs - skin-on for the best crispy-skinned roast chicken in the air fryer, skin-off for...

    NHS Data grab/GPDPR

I just opted out online, it was vey simple. You just need your NHS number. Deadline is now September.

Ideas for removing footwear with velcro fasteners please.

If the punched hole idea seems most appropriate you can purchase inexpensive eyelet kits from any haberdashery/Amazon which come with a setting tool. Might also be called grommets. Get the sort that come in two pieces rather than just spread out when whacked with a hammer. And practice on...

    Professional advice

Uh huh. Unfortunately in this case these two statements are at odds. As you are a person who is moved by empirical evidence, best thing is to get a meter and test before and after meals and act accordingly. So we’ll be seeing you in the LCHF camp very soon, then! :cat:

    Now I am unsure

Had your ‘nightly neuropathy’ been positively diagnosed by a doctor? There are many other things that produce similar symptoms, nerve entrapment being one of them - carpal tunnel syndrome affecting the hands, sciatica affecting the legs and I’m sure there are many more instances. These things...

    Type 2 New chocolate

That was on Dragon’s Den a couple of years ago. I seem to remember that the Dragons liked it. I was gonna try it, then diabetes... the sugar put me off. And TBH I had stopped eating chocolate after a bad bout of flu changed my tastes few years prior. Nowadays I eat a little Montezuma’s...

    I am losing my hair

I lost a lot of hair after diagnosis - maybe as much as half the volume with particular emphasis on the front of my scalp. Unfortunately it shows no sign of returning although the hair loss did reduce to normal rates after about 6 months. I had blood tests for nutritional deficiencies and was...

    Warning "Oppo ice cream sticks"

Alas, Oppo did unpleasant things to my BG anyway, but at least I will miss the other effects....:cat:

    Celebrating real foods

Sirloin steak on the bone tonight with mushrooms cooked in butter. I made a keto lemon cake in the instant pot this morning!

    Celebrating real foods

I made tandoori chicken in the air fryer last night - just chicken thighs, yoghurt, lemon juice and a splash of vinegar, and whatever spices float your boat. I used ground turmeric, coriander, cumin, chilli and a bit of pre-made garam masala in case I had missed anything, ginger/garlic paste...

One for the ladies (sorry guys)

One thing I learnt, never having suffered from PMT until the start of menopause when it took me a while to realise that THIS is what PMT was, is to just stop and ask yourself, ‘is it the hormones’ whenever you are over-reacting, feeling blue or just generally being irrational. It usually was...

Help before I go off the rails

I had a BC scare last year too, I was recalled after a routine mammogram. I didn’t fall off the wagon, but nor did I do any testing at all - if stress was sending up my BG levels then there was absolutely nothing I could do about it, and no need to compound things by worrying about that too. I...

    Rash under breast

If you BG is running a little high then I believe that excess glucose in the blood can encourage fungal growth. Might be worth testing to see how you are doing. I know that once I got my BG back to normal levels my incidence of that sort of fungal itch dropped to almost nothing.

Taking the 2nd AstraZeneca Jab ???

All medical treatment is a balance of risks. I agree with others who consider the risk to health to be far greater from covid than from the vaccine, and with the Indian variant romping through the country I want all the cover I can get. I work with a lot of people based in India and the...
