    Milk

Listlad, if you do want to drink a little milk, try some Arla Lactofree. Tastes exactly like normal milk to me, but is half the carbs of normal milk. Still don't drink it by the pint, but your 200 mls will only be 5.2 grams carbs You can get it at Sainsburys

Not sure if what I’m doing is correct

Yeah. All a bit confusing for a while, but you'll get the hang of it! You'll get all the support and help you need on here. Let us know what the doc says.

Not sure if what I’m doing is correct

Hi! It takes a while to get your blood sugar levels to settle down. Test just before you eat, then 2 hours after. You are looking for the reading 2 hours after to be not more than 2 mmols higher than the one you took before. That's a general guide you can get more specific later! If it is more...

    Newly diagnosed

Livlife is very expensive, has small thick slices, and no better than Burgen for blood sugar rises when I tested it on myself. I've just switched to Hovis lower carb seeded. Tastes really nice and marginally lower carbs than the burgen per slice, as the slices are less dense. Same affect on...

    Lowering carbs, aims and results

You're obviously doing well, and understand the idea of using your meter to work out how many carbs you can handle. 3 to 4 higher at +2 hours is too much; 0.5 is great. So those 25 grams of carbs is about your level it seems, although the type of carbs can effect this - low Glycaemic index (low...

Prediabetes Newly diagnosed with pre diabetes

Aaron, when you say you've seen recipes on diabetes UK, do you mean diabetes.org.uk? If so, their recipes bear no resemblance to the advice you'll see on here. Their recipes are very carb heavy, and will do nothing to lower your blood sugar peaks. I'd strongly advise that you look at the dietary...

Prediabetes Newly diagnosed with pre diabetes

11+ isn't that unusual at +1 hour for a diabetic if that person isn't restricting their carbs. Assume you're diabetic, start on the diet suggested to you on here, and start testing at + 2hours. If it's more than 8 then, adjust your food choice again.

What is pre-diabetes and how serious is it?

As I've suggested in other posts, I don't really agree with the whole pre-diabetes thing. It used to be called "borderline diabetes", then they changed the name. Problems I have with it are: 1) People diagnosed like this often think "I'm ok at the moment, just need to be a bit more careful"...

    I don’t understand

Few comments on milk earlier, regarding full fat versus skimmed etc. All quite true, but have people tried lactofree? I don't like any of the normal milk alternatives, but lactofree tastes exactly like normal milk to me - the big plus though is that it's about half the carbs of normal milk. Be...

Prediabetes Newly diagnosed with pre diabetes

Aaron, I agree with all above. It is highly unlikely that you have done any "permanent damage" to your body. Good news is, you can ensure that you never do "permanent damage" by controlling your blood sugar levels through diet and exercise. Regarding this pre-diabetes thing; for all intents and...

    Hey

Moojii, you're only on metformin, so don't need to worry about hypos; you can therefore go on a low carb diet without concern. As previously said, the amount of carbs is up to you; you need to reduce the to the level which gives you the necessary blood glucose readings. 100g might be fine, but...

Hba1c result of 41 without any medication

I'm much the same! I was never as low as you, but my A1c varies from 37 (best) to 41 (worst) and I'm ok with that. Still on about 150/160 grams of low GI carbs per day. Off to Nassau in less than a week for a bit of snorkeling and Sun - plus a few bevvies!

    Recent OGTT result

Bit late in the day for a reply, but results are good. The fact that you didn't carb up before hand means results are worse than they would have been, but still good. Shame that you didn't have more readings taken - the shape of the graph you get is very telling, as is the peak BG reading. If...

Hba1c result of 41 without any medication

Hi @Indy51! Sorry, missed your post somehow. Yeah, thought I'd pop in and see if you're all behaving yourselves! How's your diabeatnikness going?

Type 3c - how many are we?

Emma, as far as I know Type 1.5 is officially an unofficial (?) term for A type of lada, which is latent autoimmune disease in adults, so a bit like type 1 occurring later in life - I'm sure a real type 1.5 on here can correct me!

    Newly diagnosed

I see you are only 25 Fievel. Although you are eating more carbs than some might, the readings still seem high to me. It could well be you aren't type 2, in which case a well controlled diet alone won't be adequate. Hopefully you'll be prescribed medication which will help you eat a reasonable...

    What Medication

I think your DN was using the one point as a threat to get you to whatever they have told you to. As said before, 1 point is neither here nor there. Get on the diet as suggested, and you'll whack many more points than one off the score. BTW, at a guess I'd say the meds referred to are...

What is a bad spike for you, personally?

At +2 hours the normal testing time, I expect to be back to where I was before eating, unless I ate one of my rare more carby meals. Even then, it won't be up by much. However, I rarely test at +2 hours now. I think it's a great test when starting, and that's what you should do, but after time...

    Type 2 with compications

All above - but don't get down! You don't have to win all the time. Not an excuse for not doing things, but read this:
