    Problems with New GP Surgery

To put it politely, I have often observed a chasm in communication as well as in treatment protocol between GP surgeries and hospitals. To an extent we have to play the game while amassing information from all good sources and then make our own decisions. We need input from surgeries and...

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Yesterday: brunch of Greek yoghurt followed by a piece of Stoney Cross cheese (do try it if you come across it - it's made in the New Forest and is delicious) then pre-dinner small quantity of assorted nuts followed by fry-up of 2 eggs, 2 rashers bason, one high meat content sausage and a pile...

Question not addressed to me - but I do.

    Low carb shopping

We don't live anywhere near a Grapetree either, so order by post. They are very efficient.

    Low carb shopping

We also shop at Aldi and sometimes Lidl and find everything we need there. Grapetree sells high-quality nuts and also 100% cocoa dark chocolate, of which I can eat a small amount most days.

Microwavable meals to bring to work, give me all your ideas!

Pretty nearly any simple protein except dairy can be improved with a bit of Hellman's. Any cold meat, fish/shellfish, eggs..... any good to you? Cook too much, divide into portions, freeze, needs only once a week of kitchen slavery, or you could buy cold meats ready cooked.

    Ultra processed food

Good GRIEF! Nothing is what it seems. Somehow I didn't think I'd be having to fish for my own prawns, though.

Recently diagnosed husband - looking for advice

Just to say you are a wonderful suppportive pro-active wife, and with your help, your husband can make good positive progress despite the lack of information and help from the professionals. I am another who encountered this - there are many of us, and for balance, a few who have received useful...

"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

That is the depressing news of the day. Thanks for letting us know, though - it's important to find these things out. Upon reflection, it doiesn't seem to have affected my BG, but - y'know - if I were going to eat or drink sugar, I'd like to do it deliberately.

Walking after eating to reduce BS?

Similarly with me. I had my blood glucose into non-diabetic readings pretty quickly by going keto, but the weight loss took a lot longer, and I still have 3 or 4 pounds I'd like to lose. I am still keto/very low carb by choice, but I suspect I could reintroduce a few more carbs if I really wanted.

Call me The Hamster (Treadmill question)

I know someone elderly who walks all round the supermarket, up and down every aisle, to add to her 'steps' count. Would that work for you? It's level and always something to pause and look at.

Walking after eating to reduce BS?

Aaaand just to underline the importance of "we are all different" - exercise does not reduce my BG - it raises it, albeit temporarily. So if it doesn't work for you, don't think of it as failure - it is simply a different type of physical response. I still exercise because it's Good For Me - I...

Type 2 Newly Diagnosed and confused

I get husband to drop me off and we arrange that I will phone him when ready to leave. I take something to read and some money in case I want/can buy a coffee. It isn't ideal but the best I can work out. I'd be very interested to know if anyone knows a better way.

    Anniversary of diagnosis

Yep: just as you say, it's all about the present and the future. With a pragmatic attitude like yours, you are well on your way to better health. What's past is past. Step into a healthier future - and we are all in support of you.

Have you been told not to test your blood sugars?

Monitoring is absolutely key for me, even though my control has been good for a few years. I found in the beginning it was a great motivator, and I still find it useful, though I only test a few times a week nowadays.

    Prediabetes - advice

Cheese is one of my core foods too - along with cream, butter, Greek yoghurt. If dairy sensitive (I know you are okay but others may read) eggs, any fish or meat, and lots of green veggies are all okay for us.

    Car Park Alert

Just got back from a nearby town and would like to warn anyone who uses public pay car parks - the machines had not been changed to BST from GMT and so there might be a risk of the authority claiming that users have overstayed their time. Wasn't relevant for me as I just squeaked in under the...

81 year old father diagnosed with type 2

What a dilemma for you. There is no right answer. Is there any room for compromise? Might he agree to a little less in the way of sugar and carbs or is he likely to push back and eat more of them just to state his independence? It used to be that recommended readings for BP and BG cut old...

Carbohydrate Counting... Is it Effective or Necessary?

That's my take on it too. There is nothing so delicious that I would sacrifice my long-term welfare over. There are plenty of yummy things I am still able to eat - just not anything with carbs and sugars. BUT we are all different and are at liberty to make our own choices.
