Had my first appointment with the Diabetic Dietician today!

i could possibly fit this criteria. I have lost 14kg in past couple of years and don't eat a low carb diet. My A1c is 5.8% measured a couple of weeks ago. I have MODY. I can eat a fair amount of carbs. I probably average 150-250g per day. an example 07-11-08 I ate for breakfast 2 wheetabix...

Hypostop etc - Type 1 question

I've only had it before when in hospital and it was disgusting, so I wouldn't want it for home. made me feel so sick, it does work though. caity which meter do you use? you should definatly be able to check for ketones, ideally blood ketones, but if not then at least urine ketones.

    Gliclazide?

    Gliclazide?

If you have got a probable MODY diagnosis are they going to do the official testing? I was previously on gliclazide, I gained and lost weight on it, My weight was more largely influenced by other factors. I did experience some hypos on it, but they were generally not too severe and were...

Overdoing the sugar after a hypo

I find that I don't enjoy what i eat when hypo, have to eat it too quickly and drink too much with it. If I wanted a donut I'd eat one and bolus for it.

    Help with diabetes control please!

So you are taking 88 units of basal insulin and 30 units max of bolus. thats quite a big difference and wonder if thats contributing to your problems. most people do better on a more even split. are you carbohydrate counting at the moment?

    diabetes and working night shifts

I work shifts on internal rotation, so some earlies, lates and nights. I have liased with occupational health and they have agreed that I only do 3 nights in a month rota. I find that on nights I tend to get hypo's, so have to combat that with eating uncovered carbs. I think due to being more...

    Levemir Drug Trial

are you already on insultard? my concern would be if you are already on a flat basal (lantus or levemir) then you will really notice the difference and have to make adjustments to fit the peaks of the insulin. a colleague is currently pregnant and has swapped from lantus to levemir near the...

    Carbs to Insulin !!

I get you on the more flexibility gives you more chance to over indulge. I found that when i first started using insulin I could actually eat a significant amount of carbs and still have good blood sugars. I have high low and moderate carb days (today i had 150g for lunch  ) I think if...

    My diabetes sucks

yeah it's a course, usually done in groups, they are either every day for a week, or one day a week for a month that sort of time frame. They will teach you about diabetes and help you to work out how much insulin you need. If your clinic doesn't run that type of course then an appointment with...

Shaking like a leaf but BS slightly high

Could it have been anxiety? for me i often have trouble telling the difference between anxiety and hypo. I have learnt though not to just assume either and to test to find out. got caught out once putting my symptoms down to anxiety because i was in an anxiety provoking situation when i was...

    Carbs to Insulin !!

I reckon you could do a basal bolus, it might look something like 2.5 units basal and 1 unit of bolus with each meal. I would try discussing it with your DSN again, she could work out properly what doses you would need. for example yesterday i only used 4 units of novorapid all day, but on...

    Carbs to Insulin !!

caity what is your TDD? I'm on fairly small amounts of insulin and it can be tricky at times. for example, working out if I can take a bolus for smaller amounts of carbohydrate. there is a half unit pen avaliable which will help

How do i find a new diabetes clinic?

i suspect that you do need a GP referal. is there another GP in the practice that you could see if they would refer you. You are free to choose which hospital you get referred to, but you need the GP to refer

    My diabetes sucks

sorry to hear you've been having a rough time, if you are unhappy with your hospital clinic then you can change, you have the choice where you are seen. I'm not seen at my local clinic because i choose to be seen elsewhere. have you been on a DAFNE or similar course? that may help you, it will...
