    Diagnosis type 2 yesterday

For me keto or carnivore are the only things that work. That usually means 20g of carbs or less a day for me. Some diabetics might be able to tolerate 100g or 150g even and insulin users can probably have a lot more if they can manage the balancing act. Everybody is different.

    MODY diagnosis

Thanks for the tag EllieM. I was lucky in many ways in getting my diagnosis. I was initially thought to have t1 early May 2021. My partner had gestational diabetes and I started monitoring my own blood glucose with her kit out of curiosity - 26mmol was my first reading. I probably would not have...

    Little win

Amazing! It's interesting that they started you on gliclazide. It's possible you might have something like LADA or MODY instead, I don't think gliclazide would do much for a T1, unless maybe a strong honeymoon period perhaps? I have to be very strict with diet for a week or so to avoid my...

    High blood glucose

Drink plenty of water and maybe do some gentle walking, long and relaxed. It's going to take a while to come down, possibly days, without medication. You could try and focus on relaxing and de-stressing while you are waiting. 26 is pretty high, so I would not do any activity (maybe gentle...

I have never been able to “manage” my levels.

Hey, I totally get the predicament you are in. I was a chef for five years. Ultimately I decided to quit and concentrate on my health for a while. I might have to return to being a chef in the future, but it is not very compatible with my current lifestyle (Keto/IF). I'd love to hear from more...

    Back on the horse...

High protein probably does not harm a healthy kidney, I think it could be potentially harmful to damaged kidneys though.

    Hopeful and smiling again

"People with gallstones used to be advised to avoid fat but this is no longer the case and the NHS now states that very-low-fat diets may actually promote gallstone growth" https://www.diabetes.co.uk/keto/keto-diet-safety.html

    Hopeful and smiling again

I've heard low fat dieting can cause gallstones. My partner had done weight watchers and was 'fat phobic' for years and had to have her gall bladder removed just last year.

    Help with diagnosis please

Hey, thanks for tagging me @Antje77 . Hey Mk Lou, so I also have MODY, MODY 12 phenotype ABCC8. It's been hard to find information because its more associated with congenital hyperinsulinism and transient neonatal diabetes. I think there is 14 known MODY types, but they will probably identify...

    Type 2 Extreme fatigue

Black coffee, add cream to your liking? Green tea I used to enjoy a lot of the diet energy drinks, a lot are zero or very low carb, not saying I recommend any though. Pepsi Max, Iron Bru Xtra are low I think. Most sugar free Monsters have at least 2 carbs in if I remember correctly. Coke Zero...

    Beta Blockers and Metformin

Are you sure you are type 2? I thought metformin didn't cause hypo's, can't say I've ever had it though.

    Is it the vaccine!?!?!

It's not a nice thought, but do you think you might be developing insulin resistance?

    Diagnosed yesterday!!

I just started the carnivore diet a week ago, which is a subset of the keto diet. It might seem a bit extreme but might be worth looking into.

    Should I be concerned ?

When you wake, or anyone wakes, we experience the 'dawn phenomenon', although 4am is probably too early. Rice has a lot of carbs but the eggs or any fat in the meal might delay the release of any sugar into the blood, so it might be that you are seeing a delayed response. I think sleep probably...

    BLOOD PRESSURE FOR DIABETICS

Water is equally responsible for raising blood pressure as salt. When you eat more salt you hold more water and this raises your blood pressure. It probably isn't a big deal for most people. You need sodium for your nervous system.

Time to get a grip of my health and take action

Time to get a grip of my health and take action

When you blend things into a smoothie I'm fairly sure that you increase the glycemic index of the food. You make it easier for the body to break down the food and absorb the sugar more rapidly, causing a bigger spike in blood sugar. It's probably easier to eat more fruit in smoothie form vs...

    New to all this.

I find that I feel the drop in blood sugar more than the 'low' blood sugar itself. Going from 27.5 to 15 is quite a big drop, even if over a few hours. Once your blood sugars are more stable, the symptoms should subside. Take care
