Type 1 Parents Don’t Seem To Understand

Sometimes when my daughter thinks I still treat her as a child, she reads me the riot act and I back down.....mind you when I grab a 29 year old's hand when we cross the road (seems to happen so automatically, old habits & all that) it is a little (!!!!) OTT

    Type 1 Metabolic Syndrome

Not insulin resistant. Have had type 1 for 57 years. In the late 1970s I developed antibodies to beef insulin (common with animal insulin after 20 or so years) and lost a ton of weight. Have been on pork insulin for 2 years and the same thing happened recently. This isn't metabolic per se but an...

    Type 1 Metabolic Syndrome

I went to a doctor for a medical. At the end of it he stated that I had metabolic syndrome. During 57 years with type 1 this had never been mentioned to me. I also thought that metabolic syndrome referred to those with type 2. I looked it up and discovered that type 1 s can also have metabolic...

Has anyone here been a diabetic for more than 40 years?

Didn't do HBA1c s when I was diagnosed: it was a once a year blood test only. When I was 14 it was 2 blood tests on the same day, one at 11am and 1 at 3pm. I think the HBA1c came about when I had, had diabetes for around 25 years

Has anyone here been a diabetic for more than 40 years?

Can remember the "potato the size of a hen's egg" description and all the exchanges I had to learn. I was allowed as much butter and fat as I wished because I had gone down to 2 stone, at aged 8, when I was admitted to hospital and it seemed virtually impossible to put on much weight ever, until...

Has anyone here been a diabetic for more than 40 years?

It was 57 years last month, with diabetes, no complications so far. Diabetes is a pain in the backside but it has never stopped me doing anything. My Mother sent me to ballet lessons to "keep the sugar down" and at 16 I auditioned successfully for a place at a professional ballet school. The...
