Do your HCPs REALLY listen to good news?

It would be good to be able to influence the diet treatment of Type 2s, but I wouldn't have a clue as to how to go about it. My doctor likes the idea of low carbing but I doubt he'll share his views with anyone. Ailz

How many times does normal diabetics pee in a day ?

I have a she-wee - never used it - but it gives me the confidence that it's there - and I never seem to need one when I have it with me. I pee more than 4 times over night - but only go 4 times a day - and I'm on Frusemide - a diuretic. Ailz

    how low is low carb?

Ah he's talking about good bg and losing weight, that could be the difference Sid. He's someone who was in the RAF for years and went on a low carb diet in the 50s or 60s (can't remember which) and after leaving the RAF did a lot of research into why it worked. He works on 60 for weight loss -...

    how low is low carb?

Barry Groves reckons that most diabetics can tolerate no more than 60 grams a day. I try to stay under that, but as a prune addict I do go over it when I start into them, and my bg has gone into between 5 & 6. Some people can eat one thing which others can't and some can eat more carbs...

    Another illinformed HCP

Mine was every 15 minutes and then I could stop it in the night, but was warned that if I did they might have to re-do it. So I kept it on. Then it went off every 15 minutes at night too, nice to know it's been modified. Good luck with it. Ailz

Testing BM when soap and water is not available???

I use one of those alcohol (or whatever) gels that are for use without soap and water - as long as you let it dry well. I often use them if I use a public loo as I don't fancy touching the taps and drier and considering myself clean. Cheers Ailz

Low carb, Low fat breakfast ideas

I have 'the other' continental breakfast - a small piece of cheese and cooked meat or boiled egg or even an omelette. A frittata (cold omelette type thingy cooked in the oven) works too. There again I'm a bit of a cheese-aholic.

    Meter average VS HBA1c

the blood test gives an average blood glucose over between 2.5 and 3 months. It is reckoned to be more accurate than the meters - which can vary greatly, but are good for an approximation. If you use 2 different meters you will often get 2 different results. I find I can differing results...

    Question..

As a diabetic you are able to recover the VAT paid on goods - that is only available to the disabled - therefore you should, I would have thought, tick the box that says you are disabled. I know that Manchester Council, recently, only interviewed people who ticked the disability box - but there...

    New MyLifestyle Beta Testing

I find the MyLifestyle good for bp and bg but having to find calories etc. for food elsewhere to add them is a pain. Cheers Ailz

    Spirit Healthcare Free Monitor

If you look on line you'll see the strips at chemists are £19.99. They are £12.75 from Spirit - with £4.99 delivery charge - payable on a 30 day invoice. I got round this by ordering more than 1 box at a time and they usually arrive the next day. Cheers Ailz

Which complication do you fear most?

All of the frighten me, but the main one would be going blind. If I couldn't see to use the computer, read, drive or whatever I think I'd go crazy. Ailz

    should i use insulin

Insulin can put weight on you, I asked about it but that put me off. I'm managing a low-carb diet. For the first time in my life I've overpowered (at least for now) my food addiction. I'm amazed on how far I can get on what - for me - are really small meals - I've always been able to eat for...

Does anyone else feel like me?

I firmly believe that the only way to change the world is to change yourself and work outwards. If you are feeling attached to the world via gluttony and diabetes, then I would suggest that you become a more concious consumer. There is a considerable volume of evidence - if you read Gary...

re reversal of type 2 diabetes

Years ago when I was put on a 600 calorie diet by the hospital I was told that I shouldn't drive while on it as the calorie level was so low that I could black out.

    from diet to insulin?

My father has run the gamut from diet only to insulin. It's taken 20+ years and his is mainly because he has never taken much responsibility for his numbers. Cheers Ailz

How do you do a low carb/low fat diet

I've now lost the weight I put on. I've also been to physio this morning for some exercises so that I can stand and walk some more. It's recommended that I swim 3 times a week, so I'm looking into that, too. This week's diet will be mainly salami as they were selling it cheap at Sainsbury's...
