    a wonderful diet

I have chronic pain and Fibro too. I'm following a lower carb diet and that - along with a change to duloexetine - has improved my lot over the last few weeks. I've lost most of the fibro fog and brought down my bg. Good luck with your diet. Cheers Ailz

    Greetings

I joined this website when I got serious about my type 2 earlier in the year. My doctor is very impressed by what I have learned and commented that it was nice to have someone who was becoming an expert on their own disease and its treatment. Everything I've learnt has been from this site and...

    Stevia sweetener...

ebay - the 'green' stevia is said to be healthier. Or grow your own. It can taste quite bitter if it isn't pure. Cheers Ailz

    Endocrinologist appointment

I think most people have 'white coat syndrome'. Apparently it also works for cholesterol checks and can raise your cholesterol levels significantly. Cheers Ailz

    Blurred vision after eye test?

The drops are to dilate your pupils so that a photo can be taken of the back of your eye. This means that your eyes behave as though you are in very, very low light - and of course you aren't. The blurring is mainly through your eyes watering to protect themselves from too much light. Cheers Ailz

    At the Doctors this Morning

I went to see my doctor this morning to discuss my diabetes control. I ran a graph off from Lifestyle to show him and asked about Melatonin and Vitamin E. He said that I seemed to becoming an expert on my diabetes - which pleased me (and him). I told him that I was following a 'low carb' diet...

    Just diagnosed BG12.2 & confused

In the words of the Clancy Brothers - 'the longer you live - the sooner you'll die.' I intend to tip into my grave on two wheels and say - well that was a fun ride - even though I suffer from depression. Cheers Ailz

How many carbohydrates do you consume per day - Chat Thread

Re: How many carbohydrates do you consume per day - Chat Thr Very true Catherinecherub. We all only speak for ourselves. As we keep on trying to tell our Diabetic controllers (like the Borg they think we're all the same) no two diabetics are the same - in exactly the same way that no two...

How many carbohydrates do you consume per day - Chat Thread

Re: How many carbohydrates do you consume per day - Chat Thr I've cut my carbs to under 100 - but that is also to help me to lose weight. It's probably the only thing I haven't tried in the past to lose weight ; having my bg levels go up is giving me an excuse to get more proactive in...

    Dispatches

Of course the show was just showing the bad points, but even then what was shown at the Hospital was pretty awful. It's easy to follow the lead of the full time staff and not want to be the only one walking the ward looking to help people. I've listened to patients asking for a bed pan - or to...

    Cold

I wonder if you could be right. I'm very stiff and achy most of the time - I have arthritis and fibromyalgia - but in spite of the cold, I'm feeling quite perky at the moment. Plus I'm sleeping for longer at a time - in bed 12 hours and managing to sleep more than 1 hour at a time. Last night...

Feeling cold when it's not cold

I'm eating low carb - have been for 2-3 weeks - and I am cold. I'm usually the hot one in the room but am sitting with a jumper and cardigan on. Could it be what you are eating? Cheers Ailz PS Whenever I change my eating - low calorie, low carb - whatever (usually dieting) I always get...

New here, but not new to diabetes!!!

I'm a type 2 and have been for 12 years, but I've pretty well ignored it and am now starting to get some bad figures. So I joined this website and it's very, very useful. The help and back up that you get is second to none. Someone more interesting will be along soon  Cheers Ailz

    Cold

I've now cut back my carbs by quite a bit - I don't know how many I'm eating in a day - I've cut out all bread, potatoes, flour, sugar (as far as possible) and am eating meat, fish, cheese, eggs, vegetables and barley. I'm also only drinking water - with added no added sugar cordial and tomato...

Royal wedding v Diabetic bread line?????

After watching the wedding on tv, I can understand why it has been classed as a Bank Holiday. Just imagine trying to get to and from work with the crowds! I don't begrudge the money spent - mainly on security by the tax payer as a lot more money will be raked in over the few days that there...

1 in 20 diabetics diagnoses a "serious error".

My next door neighbour was diagnosed as a diabetic - and put on insulin. It was later decided that he had tuberculosis, then he had a couple of strokes (he was 45 at the time). He was taken off the insulin but had to go back on it. He died aged 50, through god knows what - his partner could...
