Not sure I have been correctly diagnosed... think I actually have type 1.5/LADA

I feel for you, it’s literally the worst time to be in this situation isn’t it. At least you have a meter and can keep an eye on your blood sugar in the meantime and people here are so helpful if you have questions or anxieties xx

Not sure I have been correctly diagnosed... think I actually have type 1.5/LADA

I didn’t initially have symptoms other than weight loss but had broken up with my boyfriend and been on an elimination diet (had a stomach virus which I thought was ibs) so put it down to that. Went to the dr about tummy issues and they did a urine test, confirmed diabetes. More blood tests in...

Not sure I have been correctly diagnosed... think I actually have type 1.5/LADA

Hi, I’m a relative newbie to diabetes but wanted to send hugs as it sounds like such a stressful situation to be in with all of the Coronavirus stuff going on at the same time. Poor you, and to look after kids etc. It’s not easy. I’m in my 40s, LADA type 1, initially diagnosed with diabetes in...

    Type 1 Skinny LCHF

I have read that cereal can be tricky! I’m also in the honeymoon but only taking basal - not bolus yet. Have you always been lactose intolerant? I’m asking because I was (for almost two years) up until diagnosis, very odd, but now I can have dairy with no problems?! Are you aiming for a certain...

    Type 1 Skinny LCHF

Hi, really interested to see how you get on. I’m wanting to go low carb at some point (nurse not keen!) and am pretty slim with high metabolism. Do you have a basal insulin and bolus too? x

    Type 1 Hair loss

Thanks, fingers crossed that my horrible stressful life patch has passed it will grow back. I realised a few months ago that it was looking thinner but with everything else happening didn’t really notice that there were two bald patches at either side. Eating super healthily (much more now with...

    Type 1 Hair loss

Thanks, there’s a triangle of no hair on either side, hoping to see baby hair emerge. It just seems to be at the front so far and hopefully now that I’ve got a few stresses out of the way and started meditating it should get better. Might be hormonal too (peri menopause, the joys!) Handfuls...

    Type 1 Hair loss

Thanks, yes I imagine they will be doing that. I’ll maybe reassess how my hair is looking in a few months - I’m perimenopausal (as well as having been stressed) so that’s maybe causing issues too

    Type 1 Hair loss

Thanks, my iron levels are good - I think the hair loss is probably stress related. The tablets have really good reviews, I’ll maybe wait until my next appointment until I decide to go ahead with them

    Type 1 Hair loss

Hi, I had some hair loss last year (specifically at the temples) and my hairdresser said this could have been from diabetes. I asked the dr at the hospital last month and she said it shouldn’t cause hair loss but it was probably from stress (2019 was very stressful for me) I was wondering if...

    Hey all!

Hi Emilia, I’m also in Edinburgh and late onset type 1 (as of a January this year) Do you get seen at the Royal? I find the nurses there have been really lovely and happy that we are given a cgm (I should have one later this month) x

    Getting used to sugars

Thanks, bit intimidated by the bolus thing tbh. I’m on gliclazide just now (I’ve been on it since early January) but I just don’t think it’s done anything but the nurse insists it has? Having said that she’s told me to stop them once I start the novorapid. I’ve been reading the ‘Think like a...

    Getting used to sugars

Hi there, I’ve just started insulin on Tuesday - basal (Tresiba) only just now but starting novorapid later this month I think. My numbers are starting to come down (think it takes a few days) but still a bit higher at bedtime. I check when I wake up, before lunch, dinner and bed and if I feel a...

    Insulin

(I mean the gliclazide, I’m only a couple of days into the insulin and it’s starting to take the blood sugar down)

    Insulin

Hi Carl, are you getting normal readings just with the Gliclazide? I was looking at my wee book of readings and I just don’t think it worked for me much? I’ve just started a low dose basal insulin now and told to stay on gliclazide too but my numbers hadn’t changed much from when I took the...

Panic about what to eat, starting insulin this week

Hi there, I was always very slim but not underweight (natural weight 8 stone 3 - up to 8.6 only if I stuffed my face! My metabolism is so fast) - at time of diagnosis had split up with long term boyfriend (I know, I have had the worst few months) and been on the FODMAP diet after a stomach...

Panic about what to eat, starting insulin this week

I think it's important, to be honest with your nurse and choose to do what you will with their advice. The main issue with low carb and type 1 is a higher risk of DKA. Your nurse doesn't have type 1 but does understand this, which is why they would be advising you under NHS guidelines to not go...

Panic about what to eat, starting insulin this week

Thanks, I’ve been trying to keep myself upbeat with small things like cups of coffee and tea, dark chocolate, meditation and Netflix. I feel hopeful for Spring, that I will have gained weight and be able to shed all the layers I’m hiding under just now. The goal is to to wear a dress and be able...

Panic about what to eat, starting insulin this week

Hi, yes - that sounds right. My priority is to put weight on (and as soon as possible) and once I’m a good weight and stable then mention swapping some meals to lower carb. It’s frustrating having such a high metabolism, seems like it might be a real nuisance with lower carb

Panic about what to eat, starting insulin this week

Thanks, I’m confused about lower carb as my nurse seems really anti LC but it’s something I do want to do once I’ve put weight back on. I’m to start on background insulin I think, and carry on taking gliclazide which I would prefer not to do. It’s a bit of a balancing act just now as I’m so...
