Second Hb1Ac result need a bit of help here!

    6cats, you have done absolutely brilliantly! I have always followed this conversion................. Hba1c Average BG 6.0 (42) 7.0 6.5 (48) 7.8 7.0 (54) 8.6 7.5...

Which is worse?.............short, very high spike, or a long, moderately high spike?

Hi folks, Does anyone have any solid info on this? I'm trying to follow Jenny Ruhl's advice in diabetes 101, that any spike above 7.7 can cause some damage. I've been low carb for 6 months now. lost 2 stone, Hba1c down from 10.5 to 6.3. I aim for 50 grams carbs a day, but tend to slip 2 or 3...

    Fast 800 23:1 IF (Mosley/Fung Approach)

Sounds like a good plan.............go for it I've just been trying to cut out breakfast and lunch 3 times a week, so fasting from about 10pm until 4pm, when I give in and have some nuts. Has helped with weight loss, but not BG control so far.

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

I only have about 30g of Bombay mix, 30g of nuts, so was a 60-80 gram day. If I can avoid the microchips, then usually stay under 50 grams. The diabetic jam/marmalade is Shute. which only has Sorbitol, not brilliant for you, as I believe it is converted to Fructose in the body, but doesn't...

Don't know whether to feel mad or sad ...

I am medically trained, and so a belief that cholesterol and saturated fat are bad is in my DNA. I have sympathy with NHS staff who promote starchy carbs, as they don't know any different, and it is difficult to be a maverick and go against the crowd. However, thousands of people are discovering...

    The Results Are In!!

Incredible results Kevin. I wouldn't worry about the triglycerides, or HDL or LDL..................I subscribe to the Malcolm Kendrick view that stress is the only important factor in heart disease. The question of how low you should go with your Hba1c is very interesting. I have read in a few...

    What to do

I'm referring to two older comments in this thread, asking where the evidence is that <3.9 can cause damage. however, there are some extremely knowledgable posters here, so I'm quite happy to believe that high 3's is OK, as long as not too frequent/prolonged

    What to do

It was a summary paper on hypoglycaemia guidelines from the American diabetes association I think.

    What to do

I think there is good evidence that in the long term, all hypos are bad news, regardless of whether they are symptomatic or asymptomatic. Every time you go below 3.9, you are risking a small amount of brain damage, even if you feel fine. 9I do have a paper on it somewhere, but can't find it to...

    Gastroparesis, Tips to ease symptoms?

I've had gastroparesis for about 10 years..............food just sits in my stomach for hours, so peak BG is at 2-4 hours, can take 8-16 hours to come down if high carb meal. I've been on Lansoprazole for 2 years...........stopped my acid reflux dead, no heartburn at all, but still got loads of...

    Today's The Day:)

Kevin, I think your OGTT result was just brilliant. To not go above 10.0 after 75mg of glucose is impressive. Even better, I think the fact you came down to 7.4 suggests to me that your vagal nerve is intact, and no gastroparesis. I have been diabetic for 17 years, and have had delayed stomach...

    What to do

3.4 is too low, you should aim never to go below 4.0..............your tiredness could be a delayed reaction to a hypo. staying under 5 even after a meal is unbelievable.............are you really diabetic?

Anybody know of low carb meal replacement bars?

I also order bars from the natural low carb store.................coconut and brazil. Expensive, as very small and £1.25 each, but taste nice. They are sweetened with FOS/Inulin/chicory which suits me very well. Approx 3.5 grams carbs per bar. The most important thing is that unlike most other...

    Nerve damage

I have been low carbing for 6 months, results below. I'm also taking a whole load of supplements, including high dose alpha lipoic acid (900-1200 mg per day). I am convinced the numbness in my toes and side of my leg has improved. This has been licensed for neuropathy in Germany since the...

    latest hba1c

Excellent result, well done. I'm awaiting my official laboratory result. Home a1cnow test kit suggests I'm down to 6.2 (44), from 10.0 (86) six months ago. Jenny Ruhl (diabetes 101) suggests we all aim for the 5% club ie an Hba1c of 5 point something. A result of 41 is 5.9 in the old way of...

    Carb Nite, carbing-up and carb-cycling

Can't comment re periods, but an intermittent increase in carbs helps with my weight loss. I am trying to be good, but about one evening in five on average, I can't resist a box of microchips, and end up having a 50-60 grams of carbs evening meal. I would expect this to increase my weight, as...

    Banting/LCHF/Low Carb?

I use livlife bread (get it online), hilo bread (from some sainsburys), both about 15 grams carbs per 100g, perfectly acceptable, especially toasted, one slice of either sends my glucose up by about 1.0 to 1.5. However, recently discovered the lidl protein rolls described above - just superb...
