What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

This is a copy and paste from a comment I just posted. But relevant for you as well.. Have you tried sambucol yet? I swear by it now I’ve had a few sniffles. Comes highly advised from Dr Bernstein. 1g carb per pastel, I get mine from Holland and Barrett’s. ;)

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

U I’d suggest getting in touch with whoever makes the pen your after. Tell them how you use their insulin daily they should give you one. It’s worth a try, i can’t believe your diabetic nurse won’t give you a half unit pen, they are not just for children. I use half unit doses every jab for my...

What have you had for your evening meal?

Low carb chicken masala for me, gave that broccoli, kale and seaweed steamed rice from Iceland a whirl. Was very nice and just under 12g carb. Even had 2 bags, mixed it all together, didn’t look that appealing compared to normal rice you would just dollop your sauce over but tasted lovely and...

Huge BG spikes after porridge and exercise

I would say it’s a combination of all 3. Dawn phenomenon, carbs from the porridge and the exercise so early on. Stress of just riding on the road can be enough, I bet London is an experience. I used to commute every morning using my bike but only a 12 minute ride and would find if I rode...

    Blood Sugar not coming down-

Hi @SueJB because our systems are all waking up and our body likes to switch off our on board insulin and secrete glucose into the blood to help us rise. If like me and your dawn phenomena is potent it’s advised to avoid carbs. That’s why dr Bernstein’s advises no more than 6g at breakfast. I...

    Blood Sugar not coming down-

You had nearly 100 carbs just with your evening meal. I’d say your subway on its own would be near 50. The fruit you are eating as a snack would greatly impact on your sugars also and I would stop that immediately. Try and avoid carbs first thing in the morning also. Try an omelette or some...

Does a low carb/high fat diet include saturated fat?

There’s no need for any excess protein, that is where problems will come in. If you just take what you need and get the balance right for your needs you shouldn’t experience the above said problems. I’m not at all insulin resistant and it still becomes problematic and I will spike after a meal...

Does a low carb/high fat diet include saturated fat?

I’m not sure why protein is being over looked over fat as an energy source. The full on Keto approach seems very extreme and if you mess it up you have a lot of fat and carbs flying around your body. A balanced meal from doctor Bernstein’s approach doesn’t call for high fat. 6/12/12 g carbs with...

    2hrs post meal/snack

I’m type one. Always have tested before meals and 2 hours after. Can make any corrections needed then if you have a sneaky peek at what’s going on before hand. Also a good reference point for what your food/meds are doing.
