A few asking for low carb food lists....

I'm not so sure about sweet potatoes they are considerably higher in carbs than potatoes with 27 to 20 g/100g depending on baked or steamed. The clue should be in the "sweet"! 'Normal' potatoes vary from 12 to 26g/100g depending on if they are new or old potatoes and how they are prepared Yams...

    Type 2 and low carb

When first diagnosed I was put on gliclazide and my BG did fall, but when I adopted a LCHF diet it fell even further to the extent that my Doc has now stopped the gliclazide as she reckons I'm "Diet Controlled" I'm keeping a close eye on my BG and will have another HbA1c test in three months.

How often does are your diabetic reviews and Hb test?

I'm on 6 monthly full reviews - HBa1C plus cholesterol etc plus a meeting with DSN to check my weight, feet etc. But because my medication was reduced and has now been stopped I'm having interim HbA1c tests at 3 month intervals.

    Amazing visit to GP

That's a pretty damning example of the ignorance of some GPs about what is a major and growing problem in public health. I can quite appreciate GPs can't be experts in everything, but I would have thought that a half decent and up to date grasp of the basics might be the norm.

    Amazing visit to GP

That's great @Goonergal ! You've obviously got a very well educated GP who isn't afraid to depart from the NHS's party line. I too was recommended this site by the young GP who diagnosed my diabetes - and I'm very glad she did too.

Doctors urged not to overtreat older people with type 2 diabetes

I don't bounce as well when dropped, as I did 20 years ago, but as a septuagenian I don't consider myself 'frail' and can easily cycle 20+ miles and spend hours doing heavy work in my garden.

A few asking for low carb food lists....

Depends on your computer and software. I click and drag to highlight the text then use Ctrl+C to copy. Then I open up my text processing program , MS Word in my case, but there are others. Then use Ctrl+V to paste or else use the paste option from the app's menus.

    Cotton pads

If your finger is perfectly dry before you use the test strip there ought not to be any problem. I wash my hands, shake off the water, dry with a towel and then give a final wipe with toilet tissue before pricking and use the tissue to soak any blood after the test.

What items do you pay the VAT on in the UK?

    I stand corrected. Thanks!

What items do you pay the VAT on in the UK?

The price we pay for any item includes the sum of all the 'value added tax' along each stage of the supply chain. A can of beans has VAT imposed on the steel can, the farmer who grew the beans, the transport company who delivered the beans to the processor, the processor and the company that...

    Got there. Off meds now!

Two years ago at diagnosis my HbA1c was102 (11.5%) it is now 46 (6.4%). Three months ago it was 48 (6.5%) and my lovely GP reduced my Gliclazide by 50%, today because my BG has continued to improve she stopped my gliclazide and will review in three months. I queried if coming off gliclazide (a...

Suggestions for protein on LCHF vegetarian diet

It's hard enough as an omnivore keeping carb intake low and maintaining protein but for a 'veggie' it must be much more of a problem. I'm sure some 'veggies' will pop up with some good suggestions but here's a suggestion from a confirmed meat eater who does low carb. Look at green veg and...

    NO veg please

There don't seem to be any or many veg you don't like, but I suspect you are not alone as there are many folk who after being raised on 'stodge' are in the same boat and it is hard to change ingrained tastes. There are many recipes that elevate veg to a higher tastier level and if you do a bit...

    Squeezing finger

I don't honestly have a clue, but doubt if it makes a very significant difference. I usually run my hand under the hot tap, flap it about to get the drips off, dry on a towel and take a stab. Works pretty well most of the time.

    Technical question

An interesting theory, but I suspect it would be very difficult to implement. I would guess that the magnetic flux density around a wrist is extremely weak and isolating it from other sources of magnetic flux such as radio waves, the earth's magnetic field and electric domestic appliances would...

    Spiking on Fruits !!!

Weetabix are very high in carbs, though as a T1 you may be able to compensate, but for many, though not all T2s they'll elevate BS considerably.
