    Label reading

For cook books try : https://www.diabetes.co.uk/food/diabetes-cookbook.html As far as regards percentages just aim for 'carbs' of 10 or less and completely disregard 'of which sugars' and you'll not be far off the ideal. But as I said in my earlier post you could go higher in carb content if...

    Label reading

Forget the sugars on labels and just look at the carbs as they include sugars. I try to buy foods that are under 10g/100g carb, but I also take into account the quantity of the food that I'm likely to eat in one serving, so can often buy higher carb foods.

Type 2 blood sugar testing or not

If you really want to get control you need to know what's happening with your BG, otherwise it's like driving blindfolded. What you eat is the primary influence on your BG so testing before and after meals, at least at first will give you a very good indication of the foods to avoid and the...

    Struggling with numbers

You are doing very well indeed @ashbash28 ! The targets as I understand it that are set by NICE are for 4-7 before a meal and under 8.5 after a meal. Just wish mine were always as good!!

    Christmas Over Indulgence

I've fallen off the low carb/sugar waggon over the past couple of days and my BG levels have shot up after some meals. It was the odd mini mince pie, half an individual Christmas pudding, a lemon slice and an ice cream that did it! But I've climbed back onto the waggon and 2018 is a whole new...

    Where to begin

As I said - don't panic, it's very early days so give it a few weeks for your body to get used to the meds before you think about going back to your GP. You should find that if you do start eating low carb your BG will start to fall. As far as eating lentils, beans and anything containing wheat...

    Where to begin

Hi and welcome @spage . First of all don't panic, it's early days and there's no great rush to get everything sorted out at once. Learning how to manage your T2 is quite a steep learning curve and your numbers won't improve overnight. You are starting on a marathon not a sprint. Daisy will pop...

    Thoughtless presents

Unless one is diabetic a detailed understanding of what can and can't be eaten is difficult. My daughter and son in law made us a lovely Christmas dinner with loads of meat, veg and olives and cheeses and all very low carb because they have a pretty good idea of what I can eat. But they were...

    Gliclazide.....

I was put on gliclazide 80mg when first diagnosed in December 2015 and had my one and only hypo in June last year. I know why it happened, it was a combination of lack of food associated with a long flight. I adopted a LCHF diet about 12 months ago and after my last HbA1c test and review my GP...

    Fat

There's been quite a lot of recent research amd also meta-analysis of research that suggests that consumption of fats does not have an adverse affect on cholesterol levels and morbidity.

    True you blood strips

Might be worth contacting your local hospital's DSN base if there is one and seeing if they can help out.
