    Type 1 and Byetta Exenatide

The only thing I can think of is that you are being given byetta to help you lose weight as it has a few other effects including supressing apetite. I am no expert but after researching various illnesses related to diabetes I have read that sleep aponea is more common in diabetics and that a...

    Cholesterol

Is there anything else going on with you at the moment? My cholesterol had risen slightly in my last test up to 5.2 but as my hba1c had sky rocketed to 9.2 the diabetic nurse seemed to think it could be related to the high blood sugars.

HbA1c result ? is it accurate

Well I'm not surprised you are confused if this is what your doctor is telling you. Ultimately he needs to make a decision are you or are you not diabetic and if he isn't sure then ask for a referral its not fair to expect you to live with this ambiguity. You need to know so you can plan and...

    Low carb brainwashing???

I'll be honest here when I first joined the rabid low carb mentality of many of the posters in other sections really put me off. I appreciate that it works for some members but thats not the same as saying it works for every diabetic. My gran was type 2 from 41 and didnt go onto insulin until...

    Morning Nausea

Well I would personally go back to your doctor and tell him to change your medication as its not only his decision what medication you take but also yours. If he is still being problematic just tell him straight you will not continue to take it and will talk to another doctor in the surgery/in...

    Lost NHS Medical Exemption card

I have forgotten my wallet a few times and was told by the chemist that I could just claim it free without the card but that the local PCT would check my eligibility later. I never received a call or letter so assume that as they have seen lots of other prescriptions with my name on ticked as...

    T2 hypos?

Dont assume its a hypo! I have had some of the symptoms of a hypo and found its completly to opposite and when measuring my sugars they have been 12+. Until you get used to them I suggest you check with your meter if you have one as the symptoms are very similar.

    Breakthrough in diabetes battle

Sounds like some progress but its gonna be 10-15 years before there is a drug on the market at least given then time to develop and then test it. But at least we can now say that its genetic I guess.

    Rosiglitazone -v- Pioglitazone

Well I am also on pioglitazone alongside metformin. I was originally on 1500mg of metformin slow release that got me under some control but started having other issues and my hba1c rose from 7.2(not great but an improvement on my previous 8.7) to 9.2 with no change in diet also saw an...

    getting desperate

I don't think a private GP will send you to an NHS specialist. What I would suggest if you want to go private is to find a diabetologist(look under endocrinology if you cant find diabetology) (try here for a start http://www.bmihealthcare.co.uk/) and then ask your doctor to refer you to the...

    Is tuna steak the culprit?

I dont claim to be a dietician but I would doubt it would be tuna as that will pretty much consist mainly of protein and unsaturated fats. I am pretty sure that no meat or fish contains a large amount of carbs as carbs would be digested by the fish/animal would be used up, passed out of the body...

    burning feet?

    burning feet?

I have problems with various symptoms in my feet including the burning sensations you describe. I saw a neurologist who did some electrical tests and confirmed I have a peripheral neuropathy. Given that I also have some kidney necropathy too in the early stages my specialist thinks I must have...

    getting desperate

in the UK at least you are only supposed to be refered to a consultant by your GP. I can understand your GP's reluctance to send you via the NHS if he isn't convinced you have a problem but surprised he would deny you a private referal. Maybe you should ask him again or consider changing GP. I...

    Anyone on Gabapentin

I was on Amitriptyline for a short while but had some really bad side effects couldnt get up in the morning and also had really bad ringing in my ears couldnt put up with any noise at all. My doctor was considering Gabapentin but refered me first as I have private insurance through my employer I...

    Cortisol & Diabetes?

My diabetologist had my cortisol levels checked when he first saw me as apparently a type of diabetes can be caused by high cortisol levels. From what he said though its rather rare, I had to do 2 24 hour urine collections a week apart. Was a pain but at least it was ruled out.

    diabertes and arthritis

I think it depends on the type of diabetes and arthritis. As I understand it Rheumatoid Arthritis and type 1 Diabetes along with a number of other diseases including MS are autoimmune diseases and from what I read there is a slightly higher risk associated with having one type of autoimmune...

    Blood Sugar levels question

Hi, I was diagnosed with Diabetes about 18 months ago with a HBA1c level of 8.7, this came down to 7.2 but for most recent test went back upto 9.2 . I am also having other symptoms that my neurologist things are unlikely to be caused by diabetes and he suspects that these might be caused by...
