Newly diagnosed type 1 after immunotherapy cancer treatment

I see, yes it must be really challenging for you. Hopefully you'll see a diabetes specialist nurse and a dietitian at your carb counting sesh which will give you a much clearer picture of the impact specific food will have in terms of carbs alone. Getting focussed on the specific questions you...

    Newly Diagnosed April 2023

So sad to hear your diagnosis, @rhodzy but tbh I'm in shock myself after reading what appears to be inaction for days after those blood results. I can only say I believe type 1 is not frequently familial but other than that just suggest you keep pressing medics and peer groups like this for...

Newly diagnosed type 1 after immunotherapy cancer treatment

Well Ruth it's bitter sweet to see you here; on the one hand if having cancer was not a big enough challenge it appears you're treatment has caused diabetes, and in the other like @Pipp said I'm sure people will be only too pleased to help. The newly diagnosed tend to have a so called honeymoon...

Type 1 - what to have for breakfast gluten free

I used to eat Weetabix a lot as a kid because it has specified, consistent carbs and it was at least repeatable without weighing it. I've been on a long journey with nutrition and lifestyle, having had co-morbidities of Type 1 diabetes , and I now eat only real food and so virtually nothing...

Relatively new to keto, looking for advice

Rachy, it's about one year since you posted; how did you get on? Really interested to hear and hoping you made progress toward your goals.

    Exercise with the keto diet

The body needs primarily carbs or cats to break down into glucose or ketones respectively for energy; fats are the one for a ketogenic lifestyle of course and I agree you may need to eat more and... The body also needs co-factors (additional elements) to allow the energy producing reactions to...

    Keto diet

When I went keto I did one thing; I ate no carbohydrates - no sugars, no sweets, no grains or flours from grains, no legumes, no starchy veg, no fruit. Probably not ideal but it got me there quickly and I did drink water and often added a bit of apple cider vinegar occasionally or Celtic sea...

    Keto and weight loss

Hayley, Mat (T1D) here again, I got an Abbott Freestyle Libre which gave me the utility to see a continuous trace of glucose in my tissue and also allowed blood glucose testing and, importantly, blood ketone testing. I'd definitely advocate for blood ketone testing when following a ketogenic...

    Keto and weight loss

I did Keto for 3+ years and found I needed to eat more and build muscle mass to compensate - not talking Mr Universe - for loss of weight from an already slim body. Do you find that weight loss is a problem when eating carbs instead, or do you still eat fat and meat protein (assuming you're not...

    Keto and weight loss

Hello @HayleyB123 I live with Type1 diabetes and feel you are on the right track. I spent 35 years trying to get BG measurements where my docs wanted but couldn't. Keto is one of two lifestyles I use and it is fabulous for me and I know for many others. The top level things I have I'm mind...

Does keto have any relation to diabetes?

I like to think of the ketogenic lifestyle as one where the signals around the body are all geared to survival of a famine. Energy comes from your own fat and if you eat carbs it switches back to obtaining energy from metabolising glucose. The main thing is add to what has been said is that...

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

Are you happy with that or looking to improve it?

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

6.4% is pretty good and no doubt you'll be able to keep it there or lower over time. I'd encourage you to keep asking how to improve.

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

That's phenomenal for Type1; my lowest was 4.7% estimated -ill have to check the blood test - but I'm now between that and 5.5% depending.

Great to see your progress! Keep up the good work.

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

I feel you're on the money regarding keeping HbA1c on the lower side - I've managed 35mmol/mol recently and l for 30 years - still had loads of hypos because of huge swings in the past.

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

36 mmol/mol is fab-u-luss! My feeling is that if I can be safely - no more hypos than usual - in the non-diabetic range of 42 and under then I'm onto a winner long term. I think HCPs are concerned for patients in case they're at risk of hypoglycemic episodes.

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

Not strictly an HbA1c comment but... What pump did you plump for? I'm going for funding ATM and am favouring Omnipod5 + Dexcom. On HbA1c are you looking to get to a non-diabetic 42 or less?

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

Between 35mmol/mol and 42mmol/mol last 12 months or so.
