    T1 Diabetes

My understanding is that, high blood sugar affects the heart, and most diabetics die from heart disease. Of course, constant low's are very bad for the brain and can lead to early onset dementia. Type 1's are expected to stay balanced and in range, which is a life long challenge.

    Anyone Ever Injected Whist Drunk?

Well, I can't really drink, so I'm never drunk, but after one very late night with little sleep, I switched my basal and bolus insulin doses. That was pretty hysterical.

Your Thoughts On The Cause, Of Type 1 Diabetes

I believe I have the autoimmune gene from my mother, as we both have rheumatoid arthritis. Both my RA and T1D happened when foreign objects were introduced to my over active immune system. The RA happened during my pregnancy (accompanied by a weird rash, sign of allergic reaction). Fast...

    Lantus to tresiba

I never had trouble waking up, but recall it's difficult b/c you need a different number of units when switching. Going from Tresiba back to Lantus, I started low and gradually moved up.

Please Recommend A Biscuit To Go With My Coffee

For some lucky reason, I can have one Walkers shortbread from Scotland and my sugars don't rise. If you have Trader Joe's where you are, try the dark chocolate lacey cookies.

    Omnipod

"Owner of a Useless Pancreas"??????? I LOVE it!! Just got my C-Peptide test results and mine seems to be operating at less than 0.1%. That's pretty useless. I'm trying to get the Omni, so glad to see they're decorate-able!

    A Few Questions And Concerns

Yes, it gets easier, but be prepared for it to take over your life. Managing type one is a full time job. If you can, get a continuous glucose monitor. You are less in the dark with this amazing invention. Best of luck. This first year is a year of learning. Your vision will straighten out...

    Medical Id - Bracelet/necklace

I bought a bracelet on Amazon and wear it almost everywhere, especially if exercising or dancing. Have had hypo episodes which scared me, so I always assume one day I'll be out cold on the floor of some grocery store. ;)Would be interesting to know how long it would take paramedics to figure...

    Tapas and Spain

Ha. I never considered asking for a smoothie. I think they may have diet soda and I have heard of a non-alcoholic grape juice drink that appears to have only three carbs (castillo de salobrena). I'll probably end up with agua plana. Thanks!

    Tapas and Spain

Planning on hitting the tapas bars in Spain soon, but I'm trying to figure out what low carb drinks I can order. Oh, and I also have an alcohol allergy.....:bored: Any suggestions? Gracias in advance!

Foods That Raise Sugar level and dont

I had a list like that. Then, it changes. For some reason, pasta doesn't raise it like rice.

    Continuous Glucose Monitor

Totally love my Dexcom and can't imagine living without it. It's hard enough to walk the tightrope of insulin dosing, but knowing 24-7, approximately where your bs is and in what direction it's going, helps.

Hi all, new type 1 checking in!

I am impressed that you know a lot about T1. You'd be surprised how many in the medical community do not. I would love to have a T1 pharmacist! Who knows? Maybe I do, but if so, would like them to admit it. My advice is, no matter how much you know, keep reading b/c treatments and research...

    Antidepressants

Hi. Sharrryn. I have never taken antidepressants myself, but have taken anti anxiety meds. I also saw a therapist when I was first diagnosed. I know many people who need, and benefit from, antidepressants. My opinion is that managing T1 is difficult enough; I can't imagine trying to do it...

    Annoyed at my diabetic educator

Hello. Take a deep breath. You're only three months in. T1 is a long distance run, not a sprint. I totally understand, and was in panic mode after my own diagnosis. Spent a lot of time trying to learn how to be the perfect diabetic. You have been mothering your autistic daughter for 19...

    Memory Problems

I was recently warned by my endo that excessive lows can lead to early onset dementia. I have not found details regarding the studies, as far as the number of years involved before you develop dementia, or the severity of the lows. I'd like to know that.
