    Merry Christmas everyone!

Belated Merry Christmas around the world! Now, let's see if we (or me, anyway) can get through this lovely pile of shortbread, fudge, coconut macaroons, and pain au chocolat without too much of a BS rise. ;)

Left over Xmas turkey. What to do with it?

How about sourdough? Or nice thick slice of white bread....

Left over Xmas turkey. What to do with it?

Hot turkey and gravy sandwiches, turkey a la king...yum.

    Dexcom g5

I think you were wondering about swimming with Dex....yes, I swim all the time and called their customer service the first time I wanted to jump in the jacuzzi. No problem, and, of course, their customer service is superb. They offered to send another sensor out to my vacation location if I...

    angiogram results are in

I think I was in shock when my cardio brought this us, so I agreed without doing research on the use of statins. My GP, without knowing my experience with the cardio, also recommended statins shortly afterward. My personal experience with my father's many strokes, possibly had something to do...

    angiogram results are in

I've been a type 1 for 2.5 years and was told by my GP that she treats all diabetics as if they already have heart disease. She sent me to a cardiologist who told me that, in a normal world, my cholesterol numbers would be fantastic. Because I am diabetic, he put me on a statin. They want the...

    Type 1 Breakfast

YES! I often have a lovely number and straight line on my CGM and hate to ruin it with eating breakfast. Unfortunately, I love breakfast.

    A minor rant.

The advice I've read is to try to eat at the same times, so I'm with you. Sometimes it takes four hours for my bs to normalize, and by that time, it's almost time for another meal and more insulin. This guy sounds like a grumpy type 2.

    Dexcom g5

Hi. Been using the G5 for two years now and don't know what I'd do without it. Only problems are the incorrect readings that can happen during the first 24 hours after insertion of a new sensor, and false lows I seem to mainly get during the night from time to time. My sensor was failing a...

    Comics about diabetes

Amazing, esp. in light of the fact you've only been in the T1 world for a few months!! My favorite is the person who loves to tell you, "if only you change your diet".....yeah, right.

    Type 1 Insulin on holiday

If you have time, switch to either Tresiba or Toujeo, which have more flexibility. Helps a lot when you travel across time zones.

    How were you told?

Six weeks after knee replacement surgery, I was throwing up consistently for three days, and was so weak I could barely shower. My doctor, who is also my neighbor, offered to drop me off at urgent care on her way to work. Stumbled in, was told my blood sugar was over 800. Tossed into an...

    Number of hypos a week

I was just taking too much basal insulin. All is well now. My occasional low's are happening at 4 or 5 AM, which is still weird b/c I inject basal around 7:30. Regarding the study, here's the link: https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/848519 Hope you can get there. They seem to have only...

    Number of hypos a week

I'm in the process of reducing my hypo's right now. Trying to get down to 2/week; was going low every other day. Dr. warned that this can lead to early onset dementia. I haven't seen a discussion of this on this website, and wonder if the rest of the world is aware. Was pretty shocked by...

Beware good what is worse than bread

I learned this the hard way yesterday, eating hummus and pita bread with abandon. I'm crossing it off my list for good.

Snack Cravings - Add to the list!...

Detest PNB???? LOL, I eat it at least every other day. Try it on slices of apple or with banana for extra nutrients.

Snack Cravings - Add to the list!...

Try this, then: avocado, milk and stevia in a blender.....nice and nutty flavor.

Snack Cravings - Add to the list!...

I usually think of nuts as very low carb, and they're my go-to snack when I don't want to raise my BS. I prefer roasted and salted and currently I love pecans (every night mixed with yogurt) and indulge in macadamian nuts. Of course, there's also Blue Diamond Wasabi almonds....yum!!!

    How do you cope?

Hey, Josh. This is who we are now. Try not to be ashamed or embarrassed. If you can, use this opportunity to educate your family and friends. I never knew much about T1 before I was diagnosed. You will never be able to control how they treat you, but I think the more they know, they more...

    What were your first thoughts?

I am WAAAAAAY too old to get type 1 diabetes; then, I hope my daughters and granddaughter don't have the gene. Then, thank God I'm still alive (later the hospital report revealed my kidneys were failing).
