    Bread ... why?

I think because most people (diabetics and me included) just like bread! Good bread is full of nutrients as well as having some carbs. I would feel.deprived and probably hungry if I didn't eat my lunchtime sarnie which by the time I've cut the crusts off gives me around 6g carbs not too bad...

    A question in chemistry

I have no idea why you would even think of doing that but more likely due to the pH changing than glucose. I accidentally knocked a bottle of vinegar over a nice raw steak I was just about to cook once and it went brown. Doubt that glucose was involved lol

    Your thoughts would be appreciated

I have never used cpap so don't know whether it's true or not but someone once told me it was like sticking your head out of a car window going at 70mph! I've never tried that either but it doesn't sound too nice!

    Sulfonylurea group

Sulfonylureas are an excellent group of drugs for the right person. My dad has been on low dose gliclazide (80mg) for over 40 years with no increase in dose and excellent control. I started them last year on the lowest dose which is enough for me and combined with a lowish but not very low...

New fixed-dose combination diabetes drug to undergo human clinical trials

No just slow release metformin and a teeny weeny dose of gliclazide. Can't for the life of me remember what drugs are combined with metformin but I know some are!

New fixed-dose combination diabetes drug to undergo human clinical trials

We do have combined tablets here too metformin and something else (cant remember what) But the OP on this thread must be referring to injections as you can't take insulin by mouth as insulin is a protein and would not survive digestion!

high blood sugar and changes in eyesight

I had exactly the same thing just before I was diagnosed. Blurry distance vision which settled then my close vision got worse as my sugar levels came down. Don't panic and give it a few more weeks mine all settled down pretty quickly. If it doesn't settle get your eyes rechecked in a couple...

Have you been told this ?

I suspect some crossed wires. That sounds like the range that she would like your husband's hba1c to fall into rather than what the diagnosis level is. It is 48 and above but she would have known that. Simple misunderstanding I Think!

Sugar Free Drinks at Brewers Fayre

Can i come in the shelter too please I also hated them! I love a lot of things from Lidl especially the multiseed loaf they do (I get a sandwich for 11g carbs by cutting the crusts off which I never eat anyway) but the rolls were yuck!

Sugar Free Drinks at Brewers Fayre

Have you tried Lidl Diet tonic? I prefer it to Schweppes. It also has no carbs whatsoever! I'm not keen on fever tree but I do like the Lidl one with my gin!

    Different GP's and different opinions....

Just a thought. Was the 88 the only high reading you ever had? If so, could it be that actually you have never been diabetic at all and that maybe that result was someone else's rather than yours? I only ask because occasionally the tubes may get labelled wrongly or the result entered on the...

    Worried about husband

It sounds to me like he is embarrassed about his size and his diagnosis and possibly feels that he has brought it on himself. We know that isn't true but the media doesn't and prefers a bit of fat shaming. I know there is some.research around about insulin resistance causing obesity rather...

    NHS Dietitian Contradicting Himself

It's all to do with something called the quality outcome framework (QOF). This is a series of targets set down to improve the care we get. If a surgery meets a QOF and there are lots of different targets to meet, they get extra funding. It's not a target specifically for giving you a statin...

    NHS Dietitian Contradicting Himself

Not any more they don't. The ABPI rules changed about 7 years ago. It was thought that giving out pens with Viagra or whatever written on it could affect the meds prescribed...the only lunches allowed now are if there is a learning element attached. I often go to dinners but there is usually...

    NHS Dietitian Contradicting Himself

I totally disagree. Doctors do not receive backhanders from drug companies. It would be completely unethical and completely against prescribing guidelines and they would be struck off if they did. I am not a doctor but I am an independent prescriber and we have to be immensely careful about...

    I love mySugr

I find MySugr pretty accurate. My last Hba1c blood test was 3 months ago MySugr predicted 39.9, actual was 40. As long as you get a fair range of blood glucose levels on there I think it's quite impressive!

    Improved eyesight after diagnosis?

Sorry 're read your post. I'm not actually on insulin just oral meds.

    Improved eyesight after diagnosis?

Yes I did. I had to wear glasses for about 7 years prior to diagnosis for distance, being short sighted and then had a prescription added in for reading too. After diagnosis, I had initial problems with blurred vision at distance (sudden deterioration triggered diabetes diagnosis) which...

    Not Seen a Doctor?

I would be surprised if the NHS offer DXA for body composition, I think at the moment they are only offered to adults for bone density scanning. I believe, not 100% Sure, that they are looking at DXA for body composition but this is still in research. Might be worth seeing if there are any...

Massive increase in blood sugar after breakfast

@Glitter2. Just to give you a bit of hope and a different viewpoint. I am Just like you in that I find very low carb food disgusting. I think it's all the fat plus I just don't like or enjoy enough of the food. I did give it a go for my first month after diagnosis but it didn't work for me...
